I received the Gibbs book today and was just reading through it. I was hoping it would explain the reason the front frame is angled the way it is.

The compound angles is something many say is one of the hardest parts of the chassis to get right.

The Sevenesque website refers to a modification to the original design eliminating the compound angles and mounting the front frame in a more perpendicular way.

Have others done this successfully, and what advice can you offer on this technique?

I imagine it would alter the way the nose cone is attached and likely other bits as well.

I constructed my front trapezoid in a "2D" way for two reasons.

one, I am using a taller motor, and wanted to keep the gradual line from the nose to the scuttle as long/parallel to the ground as possible.

two, I am using a "longer" motor, and wanted the extra space forward of the motor. 3" is a lot when you are talking about such a small car.

two.A, It was easier :lol:

Looking at how most people mount their nose cones, I couldn't find a solid reason that would prevent me from keeping it inline with most other builds around here.

The book nose is designed to make the suspension installation easier. The compound angles take a bit of fiddling to get right, and they may be the most "difficult" part of the frame, but difficult is relative. It's just not that hard. Definitely worth it IMO to spend a little time getting the nose tubes right, and then not having to modify everything else to make the suspension work.

I am sticking to the book plans, but using a 98 2.2 5 speed s10 as a donor


What are your engine/transmission measurements?

I think my Slant 6 / 904 combo is a tad bigger than your 2.2 / 5 speed... :lol:
I will not be able to use a standard book chassis and hope to fit everything in there. :shock:
