We have the donor chassis and all the fab stuff but trying to decide on which chassis layout, Champion, McSorley etc. Seems prudent to have a look at what works (or doesn't). Yes, getting the donor first is a bit backwards but basically swapped an old motorcycle for it.

IMO, having the donor first, sets you up with knowing what size chassis to go with.
Rather than building the chassis & having to limit your donor choices to fit.

That makes it seem quite logical put that way.

I don’t know of any builders on this forum that are located in Alabama but I’m sure they exist.

The CMC kit based on the Champion book chassis with miata donor was developed about twenty years ago in the Anniston area.

I recall a fellow in the Huntsville area that built one but did not contribute here. He traded it off long ago.

If you want to see what most of these builds are trying to duplicate, I highly recommend a road trip to the museum at Barber Motorsport Park in Leeds. Take your camera. Lots of great stuff there including many great bikes.

If you have any questions during the build, post them before you get too far along. Pics help too. Don’t paint yourself into a corner.

I couldn't agree more, that's my build style, I build the 7 around whichever donor I chose.

Sweet street rod. It looks like a 442 with some extra tubes, mustang 2 ifs with chrysler joints, probably an 8.8 31 spline explorer rear, 700r4, late 80s sbc, wilwood balance bar brake, holley, block huggers for under car exhaust. I like the LCA design.

What dampers and springs did you use?

Skinning the inside of the frame is unusual.

Good sized fan. Is the radiator for a specific application or a universal type?

Moroso makes a very clean two-piece water neck and filler cap assembly. Then you only need an overflow.
A round, vw pressure tank has a heater hose size fitting that can be connected anywhere for a remote fill, tee'd into the heater, a spare npt port, or tee'd into the main hoses.

95 mustang gt rear end. Explorer rear end has the center section offset around four inches to the passenger side. The front end you are spot on. I did however use the spindle made to fit the larger GM metric calipers. I do have the water neck to go in line with radiator hoses and a polished stainless overflow can that was not in the picture.
It has been a lot of yea scratching in building this because as you see I have slightly strayed from original.
Engine I’d a 5.7 factory roller engine with 4p60e trans.

That’s supposed to say 4l60e trans. I went with that trans and a lokar 4l60e electric sport shifter so I can bump shift it. Also using a TCI trans shift controller so I can add paddle shift to the steering wheel down the road.
Carb is a quick fuel 750cfm ( basically a Holley). I do down the road plan on switching to the Holley snipper fuel injection.
As far as the plating the inside, your right it is unusual and added a little weight. With the v8 putting out 425 hp I did not think it would hurt that much. What I was actually think of was the extra rigidity and strength it added around me.
The really cool thing about building anything like this is if you don’t like the way it’s looking you just cut it loose and come up with your on look.

Sorry, I just realized we were talking about your car about a month ago. You might add a link in your signature to a build page or here:
