Which chassis do you have?
Mine is the 442E.
My wheels/tires maybe even wider. 215/45R17 and the wheels are 8" wide and offset is 40MM.
Working on the front suspension, don't have it yet to measure the total width. In vsusp I have 59.375" track(not finalized yet, waiting for forum approval) + 8.5" total tire width, that makes it 67.875?
Way to wide for something like that.

Spare tire on a 1,xxx lb car... hah. With the tires I had on the car, with zero psi in the front tire, the sidewalls were stiff enough that I probably could have driven hundreds of miles on them if I had to.

You maybe right, but also gives us a bit of protection as well. Other then waiting for AAA for an hour or more.

Did not like the idea of driving on a flat tire and damaging the alum wheel.

There is one more option. Use a space saver spare donut. It does give the look of having a spare mounted, does give the safety of a spare but is much lighter in weight, You can use a tire cover if it is not an attractive design.

I did not plan to go that direction since the frame came with 5 new wheels.

I went with the spare for collision protection, utility (not running on a flat) and also style. If you're not concerned with the added weight, I think it adds a lot to the period look of the car.

Just my $0.02.
