I went to a place today as I needed to get some scrap to practice on as I just got a welder, I was quoted for 1x1 16ga square tube .64 a foot plus tax, for 100 wall 1x1 it was about double at $1.24 a foot. I may go with the thicker tubing.

I was just quoted $20.40 each for 24 ft sticks of 1x1x.065 for my build. That is better than the other place I called that wanted $43.92 for each 24 ft stick. Anyone in the Metro Detoit/Madison Hts area can get it at Metal Mart on Dequindre and 13 Mile Rd. No cut fee to cut them in half either.

I just ordered 200ft of 1x1 16ga (10x20') from the local farm store (Andre and Sons, Montrose, PA) for $158. $0.79 per foot, pretty decent, especially for a re-seller. They'll charge a buck a foot to cut them in half, but I'll just get them home whole (it's only a mile) and get less waste from the long sticks.

Thats a really good price phil from a retailer.

I was able to order my steel from work. The only issue is that the 1-1/4" is on back order 3 weeks... So it will be around the first if the month before i see my steel.

I got the

1-1/4" for $.55/ft_____140ft___$77
3/4" for $.35/ft_______72ft____$25

$102 for the chassis 8)

And that is all 16 guage steel.

Those are some pretty low prices. I just bought my first 20 footer of 1x1 16 awg for $13.54, roughly $.68/foot from blue collar supply.

They also have 6061-t6 for either $26 or $32, can't remember which, per 20'. Doesn't seem too unreasonable.

Yea i work at a "fab shop/design shop" and we go thru LOTS and LOTS of steel. So we get discounts on all steel products because of the amount of steel that we order.

144' of 1"x1" 16 gauge for $86.40 => 60 cents a foot

40' of 3/4" sq 16 gauge $20 => 50 cents a foot

42' of 1/2" x STD (about 13/16 wall) round tube $21 => 50 cents a foot

they gave me a deal on the 1x1 since they didnt have 20' sections, only 24's. Also, they cut everything in half for no extra cost. If you are near Atlanta I highly reccomend them http://www.imsgasteel.com/ Fast quote, small order, extremely friendly, and they load your vehicle for you.

Awesome, I've been looking into steel costs in GA, may just have to go thru them, thanks for the heads up!

Just took delivery of 160' of 16ga 1x1 to my door at $129.90, that would be $0.81 a foot (tax included).
Came in 8 20' sections.

Blackbird, where was that from? I've been having trouble finding anything decent in the ventura county area so i might have to look toward the valley/greater LA for my tubing, and 129 would be fine with me.

Industrial metal supply in sun valley - 818-394-3188.
Note the different source I'm using for DOM tubing (cage and suspension arms) - www.tottentubes.com .

Now that I got my quote and my order is placed, I came in at $.6508/ft for 1x1 16 ga. Bought 240 feet. From EMJ (Earle M Jorgensen Steel) delivered free to work. They deliver all of our material for free. I don't remember what everything else came in at, as I gave the quote back to the purcahsing agent.

Just got a quote from Mill Metals, Manchester, NH. 216' (9 sticks @24' per) of $136 (.69/ft). They only need an hour lead time to pull it out and have it ready. As soon as Uncle Sam gives me my money back I get to buy most of my frame plus a build table, thus the large amount of tubing.
