Love tinkering with the SU's takes a while to learn, they are really fantastic pieces of machinery.

I especially liked the fact that I could "tune" a portion of the range simply by taking a nail file to the needle. I spent more time looking at spark plugs on my A-H Sprite than Id care to admit.

hey TB, there are no short cuts to performance.

true. I spent a lot of hours and too many dollars to get a 1275 A series from 58 to 80hp

It's funny, I'd rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

Sorry for the sorta threadjack a.moore. Hopefully you picked up some good go faster tips from John's post. There are a couple of valuable nuggets in there.

I have about 2000 mi on my 2.3 Duratec. I’ve noticed that the #2 and 3 primaries run about 100 degrees cooler than 1 and 4. My exhaust system is a 4/2/1. The secondary for ⅔ has nearly no blueing but the ¼ pipe is definitely blue. The engine idles and runs very smoothly. The ITV butterfly’s are well balances. The injectors were cleaned and balanced prior to installation. I am running Crower Stage 1 cams. Unbeknownst to me at the time I ordered them, they were ground with 4 degrees of advance to accommodate emissions compliance. I took this out with adjustable sprockets. I’m wondering if there were any other emissions compliance in the grind.

Anybody else experience this?

Spoke with Crower tech support. They don’t change anything for the inboard cylinders. I wonder about the porting.

How do the primary lengths compare across cylinders?

Apparently I forgot about this thread. I guess the Sprite purchase 9 months later distracted me. ;)

Equal length. No help there. A friend, a retired automotive engineer, suggested that the coolant flow at the center of the head in-between the center exhaust ports might be different that that adjacent to the outboard ports and contributing to the observed difference. He thinks it is of no consequence.

I would read the spark plugs. If I see no discernable differences, I would ignore the header blueing and move on to the next issue.

Just for fun, you might swap the 2-3 and 1-4 injectors just for confirmation that they still are performing equally. But I really don't think that it will show anything different.

I did both with no change. Moving on to replace the clutch that blew at the track last weekend.

perhaps valve lash is to blame or can be used to correct. as in more lash equals less cylinder charge.

More air flow around the two out side header pipes. You can is that condition on some I-4 M/Cs with a touring fender and large mud flap even with double wall headers. Davew
