Been lurking around for about a year now and its time to pull the trigger.
I am in Montreal.

I have a garage free of debris ready to start. I will build a table while getting donor which is a1991 Nisssan 240sx with no motor or tranny.
I found a motor and tranny SR20 turbo, short stroke alum block and tranny. It is short enough so I wont need a hood scoop. Hopefully it will turn out so I can use most parts on the donor and motor. The motor comes with ECU and wiring harness.

See pics....

Add another one into the 240 build club.

Which chassis do you plan on using?

I have an '89 240sx I'm using for a donor. I am debating back and forth between a 442 and a modified Haynes

I don't know yet. Either a modified Haynes or Ewhen let me use his plans.

Can't wait though.

I am wondering if the stock diff on the 240sx will be ok with the R20DET turbo motor......Any thoughts?

Don't worry about it. There isn't enough weight on the back end of the car to cause the tires to have enough grip to use half of the torque that thing will produce.

I have seen a Miata diff get 300 SR20 Horsepower to some slicks in a lapping lotus 7.

your diff should be ok!

The nissan diffs are very strong, I can't recall ever hearing of one breaking. Axles will break prior and that requires 4-500++ hp launching hard on slicks in a 240sx (2500-3000 lbs).

The stock transmission on the SR20 will be the weakest link IMO, but even then I doubt it would be an issue at any sane HP levels in a 1000-1500 lbs locost.

OK, I have officially started.

I got a mustang rear end and front spindles. I know it is drum brakes but I will change them to discs later.

The stock for the chassis is coming this week.

I have one question. What is the distance from the drums to the frame. I have to figure out which chassis I am going to build. THe 442E+ or which ever one would fit this rear end.

Thanks,

Bob

Agree with Robb, start a new thread in the Build Log section.

To determine the chassis size that'll fit your rear axle, take the track width of the Mustang for your model year, subtract the width of one tire, subtract another inch for the trailing arms and another inch for clearance. That's your maximum frame width. For example, if the Mustang's rear track is 57" and you plan to run 9" wide tires, it'll just fit in a 46" wide (442) frame. If you want to run wider tires, build a narrower frame (e.g. Haynes) or run spacers.
