Thanks for the info, once again! I would like to contribute to your project somehow for providing so much info, seriously -- even though I'll likely be using a direct bolt-on transmission option myself, maybe you'll let me cover the cost of your custom pilot spacer in exchange for those STEP files?

Anything helps. :)

If your using the Isuzu AR5 you won't need it. Just run all the stock components from a manual 98+ RWD Trooper and your good to go. Finding it may be the hard part.

Screw that Rally Fighter. The Nomad on the other hand is 110% bad ass. Since that vehicle is fairly short, you may like the placement of the Trooper AR5's shifter location. Don't discount the MAU5 too much. It's not that bad of transmission. They shift rather well actually. If your going NA or even mildly boosted it'll still hold up. Remember. Your not pushing a 4000lb Rodeo for 250k miles either. Your pushing 1500lbs. It's just going to roach tires. IF you find your popping the MAU5, the Trooper AR5 would be a bolt-in replacement at that point.

Should you find a 2WD Trooper hard to find, look into the '90s 4 cylinder Dodge Dakota. It has the AR5 pattern on one side and a GM60 in the other. It might work but I haven't verified. A friend of mine is using the Dakota bellhousing to bolt a Solstice MA5 to his 3800 v6 that he's using for his RX8 swap. I'll test fit it on my engine as soon as it's off the stand but it should bolt up. I have no idea what trans the Dakota used. Probably an AR5 or AX15. Options options options! What's not to love about this engine?! :D

I'm not pulling ideas from the Rally Fighter except the layout. That thing is 4000lb! I'm essentially going for an enclosed, FE/RWD Nomad with a small amount of storage space. Target weight ≤ 2250lb.

Nice find! I'll keep that in mind.

This is the main reason you guys should look into this engine. That's the long block. Still a little coolant in it.

Did you weigh it before you stripped off all the accessories that will still have to be put back on?

Complete but ac, ps, starter were off. Engine mounts, exh manifolds, flex plate, oil filter, and wiring harness were still on.

This is a seriously cool engine and project. I can't believe I haven't clicked on this thread before.

I'm jealous over the pretty welding and machine work, so I'm off sulking in silence.

The way my 8 has been treating me this week, I'm threatening it with this build thread. :BH:

I made these velocity stacks last week. No lathe required. :)

It's a crop of panel 3 from VG Cats strip 157 (now apparently strip 108?) "The Funny Pages".

It is used with artists permission actually. :D
I remember asking them if they had a pre-lettering stage version without the word balloon I could use as an avatar, but they didn't have the original multi-layer file anymore.

I've seen it used by a few other people since then.

The stacks look mint!

OK, I'll bite: How?

I've been watching some youtube stuff on metal spinning a set and I do have a lathe to do it with but nothing about spinning seems simple without a fair number of mistakes first.

Thanks,
Alex
