Alfa track is narrow, 54".

Made a deal tonight on a Bugatti 35B body originally intended for a VW.
Very similar to the Alfa I was looking for except for the grill shell.
Could probably fake the Alfa engine as a half-Bugatti (Bugatti were strait-8) if I remove the original logo and engine turned the surface.
I had forgotten that only one side of the hood actually opens on these, not insurmountable but more work.
Hoping the guy keeps it for me as promised, snow is going to delay my picking it up.

actually, Bugatti built both fours and eights.the eights are more well known. the type 23 'Brecia" was a 4 cylinder SOHC engine, as was the typ 37

I saw a Bugatti body for sale on ebay once and the guy mocked it up with modern wheels , wide tires and a low stance and it actually looked really nice. Russ

I've sold the SPICA mechanical F.I from the Spider to pay for this body.
So I would have to struggle along with the 2L TC Alfa on Webers, five speed, four wheel disc brakes, LS rear, 4.56 and 14" Campagnolo wheels.
If I make this happen the plan is a true single donor build.

Got the "Bugatti" body today.
Very complete CMC kit that has never been built or even started on.

Simplest build would be VW as designed, but an Alfa drivetrain would be more fun.
Looks like the body might be able to be "Channeled" a bit at the bottom to lower the CG for better handling.

Looked at the Alfa front suspension tonight, certainly would not want to use the steering.
Might be able to adapt a rack & pinion?

Tapped out for now so it will be a while before I can do much with this.

What it looks like on a VW.

Congratulations on your acquisition!

Here's a pic of the one my Dad built a few years ago. Same kind of deal as your's, someone bought a kit and never did anything with it. http://twinlakesseven.blogspot.com/2010 ... y-dad.html

Again, Congratulations!

Looks like Alfa track width is about 1" wider than VW so not an issue.
Almost anything else is too wide.

Had a look at the Bugatti/Alfa body tonight.
First issue became clear.
The engine would be WAY back in the "original" engine compartment.
So far back that a lot of it would be under the scuttle.
Never thought I would ever be trying to figure out how to move an engine FORWARD. :ack:
Need to clear some space for a real first mock-up.

If it's not going to work out I will build a Sette instead.
Italian for "Seven" is "Sette".

That looks to be the same kit I bought but mine is red and set up to use Spitfire tail lights.
Full width windshield and full fenders are probably more practical than the racer version.
Mine even has a convertible top but no frame for it.
Thinking that if I made up an Alfa style grill in place of the Buggati no one would know the difference.
