Hello
I have put a limited slip in my 7.5 inch ford axle, but if i remember back several years I may have had the issue before that even.
If i have the car on the hoist i have a little play (axial) if I turn the wheel by had before it engages the input shaft or the passengers side wheel. If i try this with the passengers side it has no play to the input shaft. I get maybe 1/2 inch or more rotation before it engages the input shaft on the drivers side.
Could anyone give me a clue as to what the issue is and how serious it repair. I should have dealt with this several years ago when I did it but time was not on my side - never is
Thanks
Dale

I'd check the spiders, side gears, clutches, and steels. If there is no obvious damage inside, looseness, or noise, I'd let it go.

I agree. Most of the aged Ford diffs I work on have a lot more play than that! The diff in my '94 F150 has worn the the center pin/carrier to the point that I'm worried the pin retaining bolt will snap off. I'll cut it some slack, since the truck just turned over 209,000 miles.

If the clutches/steels are good, it's possible there is some spline wear on one side gear/axle. You did put the wave spring in, right?

Thanks
Pretty sure I put the wave spring back in. I dont think there is any in out play on the dif, but I will check as its just sitting on the hoist in the garage. Its a tight couple of weeks as I have to have it ready for a safety check in two weeks as the laws change at the end of June.
