I found a pinhole leak in a welded seam on my rectangular style fuel rail. I have a spare round style with the pulse dampener. Does the nipple on the dampener need to be plugged?

Found out that the nipple is for a vacuum line. It can be capped off with no consequence.

Nipple? on a fuel rail? I don't know about Duratec's but it certainly sounds more like a fuel regulator than a damper.

Is it the unit in the middle of the rail in this auction's pictures?

If it is the return-less style fuel rail with a pressure sensor with wires coming out of it, the computer does all the regulating and that round thing is probably a pulse dampener. Pulse dampeners don't usually have ports for vacuum hoses. Some return style rail systems have both regulators and dampeners, like the Yamaha motors from the old Taurus SHO's.

My Ranger Duratec came with a similar setup. Deadend fuel rail, nothing that resembled a pressure sensor or regulator and a pancake shaped thing with a nipple on it. I converted it to a return type and left the nipple open. I suppose the pressure sensor is located close to the pump.
