Im getting ready to start a new build with an ecotec 2.2 engine.I know nothing about them really ,but i have been told they are great by the off road guys .My questions are, what does it take to make one run..wiring computer etc. What rear wheel drive lightweigh gearboxes, clutches ,flywheels etc are available?.Are there any bolt on itb setups available and lastly what kind of weight and hp in stock and modified configurations are we looking at? .
Cheers wayne

I have a supercharged 2.4 Ecotec. The 2.4 has variable valve timing whereas the 2.0 does not. I think they are about 150 hp

CBM motorsports makes a super high quality wiring harness with computer. I bought from them - they programmed the computer too. Great to deal with.

The engine weighs about 300 lbs. The pontiac solstice trans bolts right up.

If you are going to drive it you don't want ITB's.
For drivability and tune-ability ITB's create more problems than gains.
Biggest loss is low end torque

Many of the GM products are tuneable with software like HPTuner.

There are many aftermarket solutions,
my favorite is MegaSquirt,
a MS3 will provide onboard logging, sequential ignition and injection, launch control, boost control, nitrous control, I think even traction control.
And it has excellent online support.

I would avoid any Holley or Edelbrock systems as I have had really bad experiences with them.
I would not buy anything that is a closed (proprietary) system, phone support is frustrating at best.

Figure out what you want and do lots of research before you buy.
If you are not going to tune it yourself, find a tuner who has a good rep and has experience with the ecotec.
I think there are a few using this motor (or similar motors) in E Mod AutoX, talk to their tuners.
Bad News Racing may be a good start.

I think you will find that the Cruize or Sonic turbo motor will be a better choice than a 2.2L.
Smaller and more power.

I rocked the l61 2.2 in my Saturn for almost 6 years(died at 204k of a timing chain). Plenty of pep in the ol' wagon. Solstice and Sky parts are easy and now there is some Miata Ecotec swappers for transmission gear.

The easiest way to mate your 2.2 Ecotec to a rear drive trans is with the adapter these guys make, unless yours came with a trans...

They can also help with the electronics. They've been racing Miatas with the ecotec motors for a couple of years now.

Hey Wayne, good to see you back at it. Where did you end up?
