I currently own a 1984 Toyota Tercel 4WD stationwagon. The car has a 1.5L SOHC engine (that runs), a front 6-speed transxle (broken) and a rear solid axle. Does anyone know if the rear axle in this car is the same as the RWD Corolla GT-S of the same era? This car is sitting in my Mom's backyard. My build is just starting and I'm looking for donor parts. My plan was to use an S10 rear axle, that's what the frame builder is setting the car up for. But a front suspension kit from Kinectic Vehicles would be simple and easy to mount in the car. The Kinetic kit uses Miata parts with the very common 4x100 bolt pattern. The S10 has a 5-lug pattern that's sort of odd. The Toyota axle I have is the same pattern as the Miata stuff (4x100). Everything would match up. This would make the build much easier, since I already have half of it. Anyone have information for me as to the availability of parts for the Toyota axle? Are disc brakes available? What about a LSD? Will the Corolla GT-S parts work on my Tercel axle? Surely Toyota used the same axle in these cars? Should I just start looking for a RWD Corolla GT-S donor or forget the whole thing and just get a Miata IRS unit?

Thanks for any help!

The Corolla GTS axle has a 4 x 113 pattern, with a 4.3 diff ratio., and not 4 x 100 stud pattern.

I would go ahead and use the Tercel axle if you already have it and it matches the wheel pattern you want to use for the front. The drum brakes is really all you need on this light of a car.

I would think the a 4x4 Tercel might have a LSD in it. If the last digit of the three numbered axle code is a 3 or a 5 then you have a LSD Toyota axle.

Good luck on your build Dave W
