Dutton B Type Racer/Street Car

Post by Earley Motorsports »

Hi all. I have a Dutton B Type Racer which would be ideal to run as a sports racer, autox or track day car. It could even be put on the street. I found a picture of what the car looks like although I haven't put the body on to take a photo yet. It does not have a motor ( I bought it for the motor) but it does have a Cortina 4 speed which will bolt up to a Zetec. It has Spax adjustable coil overs all the way round, these are older but seem to work fine. It has wheels, spitfire rack (right hand drive), uprights discs etc. The rear I think maybe an Escort and is 3.7:1 ratio. Apparently the car was imported into the states in the early to mid 70's but was never completed. The car looks like the one below. Cycle front fenders. I will put the body on and get some more photos. Just seeing if anybody is interested. It has been stored inside all of it's life. It needs some work to finish it but really just wiring and plumbing. Most of the brake lines are there and has Master cylinders. I would like to get $1500 for it as a roller. There is no way you could build it for this amount. Hey shoot me an offer, lets talk.

Here are pictures of the car. It has the aluminum side panels but ther are beat up and would need to be replaced. Could be used for patterns though. The fiberglass has some cracks but nothing that couldn't be repaired. No bits missing. Has the racing windscreen. Steering is all hooked up. New master cylinders as in new a while ago and front brakes are plumbed. Drive shaft is there as well as the interior seat tub. Has a trunk etc. The fiberglass is in the original gel coat. What you see is what you get. Make me an offer or possible trade. I could even deliver within a reasonable distance for gas money.

Graham, Very cool. It looks like an interesting project. I know I'd be tempted if I had more space, more money, more time and a wife who wasn't waiting for me to finish my car so she can get some long awaited honey-do's completed. Good luck with your sale.
Chuck.

Thanks to a fellow locoster I have found additional information on the car from Tim Dutton, owner of Dutton cars. This was one of a couple built for racing by Dutton but then decided they would be better off from a marketing point of view to modify one of their street cars. So this is a rare vehicle according to Tim. It was imported by a Formula Ford (Royale) dealer in the New England area back in the early 70's. For the right money I would possibly through in the motor I bought the car for but that would not be cheap as it is a NOS Kent 1600 crossflow uprated motor (711M block).
