Up for sale is my Yamaha FJR1300 engined locost. Fully street legal and registered in California. Looking for $10,500.
I personally built this car, but no longer have time with a young family. I am open to a trade for a specific car only - a pre-smog ('75 and earlier) BMW 2002.
Thanks for looking, and please let me know if you have specific questions:

Specs:
Engine:
Yamaha FJR1300 engine, shaft drive, sports touring engine. This is ideal for a BEC, as it is higher torque than typical sports bikes.
141bhp, 99 lbf·ft @ 7,000 rpm
PowerCommander aftermarket ECU
Honda Civic radiator
As a bonus will include spare engine - purchased with intention to do turbo build

Chassis, suspension & running gear:
CMC frame, custom cradle for engine
Toyota Celica solid rear axle, Miata front spindles, rotors, brakes
Volvo 2 piece driveshaft
Custom aluminum coil-over shocks on all 4 corners from Protech in UK

Body:
CMC scuttle and rear fenders
Custom front aluminum fenders (not mounted, comes with fender mounts)

Interior:
Full working gauge cluster from bike
Paddle-shift gear-change
Aluminum pedals from Jack @ kinetic
Proportional brake adjuster for rear brakes
Fiberglass seats imported from UK (Triton seats)
Aluminum floor

Sorry to see you go. Live does get in the way sometimes. I have advertised your car on USA7's site for you. This will be a great 7 for someone. Russ

Been looking for an update on this car regards how it drives, but not THIS update.
If you sell it you will regret it, take it from the ex-owner of an aluminum bodied Jaguar XK-120, flat-floor XKE, '59 El Camino, Noble P4, and too many others to mention.

If you get low-balled on the car I am interested in the spare engine for my Tatum rear engine build.

I guess instead of asking you questions about the car I guess I should be figuring out how to get to Cali!

This has been an inspiration in my planning process. I hate to see you get rid of it.

This is a nice build, with lots of torque out of your chosen power plant..

Seeing your build surrounded by a baby stroller, radio flyer, and some sort of baby play-mobile thingy makes the sale make perfect sense.. Life does in fact happen, but when those kids get a little older, you'll have another something interesting in the garage (maybe sooner than later if you find your 2002!)

Neat car- Good luck with the sale

Thanks for the kind words guys, it's hard to see it go, but maybe there will be another at some stage in the future!

Regarding the questions on driveability - at first I was using a clutch master cylinder from a Celica and it was all wrong. The clutch was like an on/off switch, which led to many stalls and unpleasant moments in traffic. I foolishly lived with this for a couple of years before finally changing the clutch master to a motorcycle rear brake master cylinder. Wow, talk about night and day, it completely transformed it where it has nice travel and is a joy to drive.

The thrill of the bike engine is something I will really miss. It screams up to its 9K red-line when pushed (hitting 55-60 in 1st gear) yet has enough torque to be driven sensibly at low rpm as well. By complete luck, the 3.46 rear end is a near-perfect match for the existing speedo meaning no need for any adjustments. This should also give you an idea of how the car is geared relative to the FJR1300 bike. The paddle shifters are fun to use and it leave the transmission tunnel area clear for resting an arm.

Not having reverse never bothered me too much although I am always aware of it and you need to be mindful of where you park. It would be possible to add a reverse motor directly onto the middle drive assy (right angle gearbox) of the FJR engine, I toyed with the idea and did a mock-up on my spare engine.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to share.

Russ - many thanks for posting the link to this add on the USA7's site, much appreciated!

It is registered and titled under SB100 as a 2007 SPCN Lotus. This is the legal way of registering this type of vehicle in CA.

Thanks,
Rob

Sold?

I would expect it to be by now, but I also know how the market can be for custom cars.

Car is still for sale! Please let me know if interested. I've had a few inquiries but no takers yet.

I've had more questions about my custom radio flyer wagon, maybe there is a market for it 8)
Thanks,
Rob
