Last Wednesday Bill, Chris and Tim from Winnipeg, who are all in the middle of builds, went out and visited with Bob Z to view his V8 powered Locost, discuss some of the finer points of construction, learn how he got through the registration process in Manitoba and then he took each of us on a very inspirational drive.

His suspension theory is to keep the springs and shocks (relatively) soft and then control things with the roll bar. Gotta say that the car was really smooth moving down a rutted gravel road at about 60 mph (I was so enthralled that I forgot to look at the speedo). And the car accelerates like crazy even on a hard packed gravel/dirt road....the posi works really well. Everyone came back from the ride with big stupid grins on their face.

Note the old Saab 96 in the background...what a neat car. 3 cylinder 2 stroke powered. I first rode in that car in about 1980 and loved it. Started without being plugged in in the winter and had a ton of room inside because the drivetrain occupies only the front 18" of the car. Bob has created all sorts of other monsters in his life. He showed us his latest ones...a Yanmar diesel powered motocycle, an Izuzu diesel powered Mercedes sedan amongst others. We swapped some old racing stories while enjoying the hot spring sun. The three of us went home armed with new knowledge and determination to get our own cars finished (and thinking about V8 power instead of 4 bangers).
