I know they are not exactly ideal for a retro looking Locost, but for a bit of a modern twist they would be great. There is little talk on the UK forum about it, but i thought i would pick some brains here.

So my plan is to either do two sets of projectors (one set for highs and one set of lows) or i will do just two projectors with the electronic variable high/low capability, but this all depends on price. I am trying to do this on a strict budget. I would like to do the "floating" look like on the MEV Atomic or the EFR.

My first idea was to use motorcycle headlights as they have everything built in that i need, yet they are just too big and bulky for my taste. I fitted my 2005 R1 lights up to my car and it just wont work. The only headlights i can see working are the current and late model R6 lights, but one side is lows and one side is highs. That wouldnt be exactly nice on a car and the modification process to fix this is just too time consuming and costly (i actually did it to my old R6).

So i have been searching around and have basically found two options. Hella makes the projector housings that sell for roughly $60-120 without any bulbs for them. These housing are designed for a regular bulb and not an HID bulb, so if a HID kit was retrofitted, it would work nice, but the reflector would not be perfect. So to get a perfect reflector and housing for HID (i want HID) a HID projector will need to be used... but the Hella ones are not cheap. So i have been searching around and Ebay is full of these things from BMWs, Mercedes, and Audi. Most of them are the same unit that is just used on different vehicles. They sell for roughly $60-80 for a pair (without HID bulbs and ballasts), but cones will need to be bought or made for them. There are some of the variable sets on there but i have no idea how to wire them and it would be a shame to get them and seriously burn them up. Working in automotive i know many parts dont run on 12v so they would be easy to fry if done wrong. So im thinking ill buy the projectors and cones to seal the outsides for them. Ill make brackets to hold them, and ill fabricate a rear cover.

Any ideas to make this easier? Anyone have a source or knowledge on the adjustable high/low single projector units?

Here is a ebay link for a adjustable projector for reference.

Hella makes aftermarket projector headlight modules. you would have to use the mounting bracket to fabricate a mounting base, but Locost's are all about custom fabrication anyways. They're not low cost, but they are small and put out a lot of light.

From the Hella website http://cat.hella.com/hella232/jsp/search/advanced/Frameset_ButtonBar_Bottom.jsp?nologin=yes&currentObjectId=CA@USAData@PR@008194047

Well I bought a set of projectors, HID's, and ballasts off ebay from a 2010 Cadillac CTS. They are in perfect shape and best of all the single projector acts as both a high and low beam via a small motor and plate.

Now to figure out what I want to do for a water proof housing. Will probably have to be a front and rear portion. Any ideas anyone?
