If you're running a baffled or oddly-shaped tank the usual float-on-a-pivot sender won't fit well. Some of the race-car places sell an "electronic" sender that's just a stick that goes down into the tank, which is great, except they seem to cost $50-$100.

"marine fuel level sensor" will get you the marine versions, which are stainess steel, use SAE standard flanges, come in various lengths, are available in 240-33 or 0-90 ohm versions, and cost about $20.
