Looking for a good handbrake handle to fit a Locost. I have a Miata handle that doesn't really lend itself to mounting on the top of my transmission tunnel. Anyone got any pictures of a handle you like? Just about any could be adapted to fit my Miata brake cables I think. -Steve |

Steve, I have one from a 90 Toyota Supra I could "throw" in. Let me know and I'll go take a pic. Tom |

Sven I have the about same E-brake system as Steve. I would only add that you move the lever a little further back and recess the lever down into the tunnel. [I actually shortened the mounting legs on the mounting bracket.] I also ground the racket jaw notch lower on the cam lock for the lever. This allows you to park the lever at a lower angle for added elbow clearance. Dave W |

Mine is an 85 Corolla lever mounted on the pasenger side floor beside the tunnel. I can reach it, doesn't get in the way of my arm or the passengers legs. |

I used the RX7 handbrake which, I believe, is fairly close to the Miata design. I cut off the tail of the mount and turned it 90 deg to bolt to the tunnel crossmemer. It works well and seems to be in an OK position. However, my shifter is pretty far forward. If I moved it back, then the handbrake would also have to move back a bit. Scattered details of my cable construction can be found on my build log pages 3 thru 5. I'm not sure if you are looking for before or after pics so here are both. |

That certainly looks like a Miata handbrake lever, or very similar. I'll think a little more about mine rather than discount it because it wasn't easy ... thanks for the tips. -Steve |

Graham, Would you mind posting some pictures of this setup? I'm interested in the handle mounting, cable routing to the rear axle, and the attachment of cables at the adjustment points. Thanks, Aaron |

I used a Spitfire handle, mounted up under the dash, can just see most of it here: Its one of the few things that Spits are good for. |
