Looking at using a Merkur IRS rear for my GT6/Buick V6 project.
They come with drum brakes.

I know there are disc conversions useing production parts.
Might those be from an Escort GT?

Need to know pretty quick as I've found both Merkur rears and a rare in the U.S. Escort GT being parted out.
But the prices will double on Tuesday! :BH:

What year Escort? I'm not aware of any USDM Escorts being rear wheel drive...

Maybe this will work...

if you can find a rear disc kit from a merkur scorpio, then it will bolt up to the bearing flange, just use the xr hub for the 4 bolt fixing.

i believe that the discs from a sc will fit

also the banjo bolts are available from speedway motors.

I assume the Merkur is your equivalent of the Sierra in the UK. The Sierra comes with drums , solid discs and vented discs with two diameters of vented discs. To convert drum to discs you will need a aftermarket bracket that bolts to the outside of the hub to carry the caliper. Burtons do this aftermarket stuff in here http://www.burtonpower.com/

The sierra calipers are made for either solid or vented discs as below.

The Sierra bearing hubs come with two different length of lugs as below, there are small diameter vented and solid discs versions ( small lugs ) and the larger vented discs go with the hubs with the longer lugs. If you are going aftermarket you can drop the sierra discs over the hubs you have and make a bracket to carry a caliper but you will need longer wheel studs.

253mm vented rears http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rear-Vented-B ... 5d4b1452e9

253mm solid rears http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eicher-Rear-B ... 4610c4b383

If your feeling flush there are bigger conversions , get your wallet out :) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tarox-Ford-Si ... 43bd0f5918

I used Ford Turbo Coupe discs and calipers on the back of my Merkur, when I did the rear conversion from drums to discs. I also made some custom mounting brackets.
Info for this conversion can also be found at the Merkur Forum.

There seems to be disagreement on weather or not all T-Bird IRS are 5-lug or not.
I suspect that the T-Bird disc and calipers may be a bit large for my GT6 and 14" wheels?

The fun bit is going to be narrowing the width by 10".
New axles, control arms and uprights will be needed.
Maybe should have gone with the Supra diff instead but I wanted the Merkur hubs.
Personal taste dictate trying to stay with European parts if possible.

I like that these hubs should be 4x108MM, same as my Enkei "Basket" wheels.

I signed up to the Merkur forum but have not gotten my approval e-mail yet.

The Sierra has the 4x108 wheel flanges and the Granada has the 5 stud. These interchange so it's not a problem. It might pay to have a look at the Haynes builds because they are Sierra based using all this running gear.

I now have a Merkur rear to work with.
Have to finish cleaning and stripping it.
Did get a chance to try my wheels, they fit fine on the hubs.

Thinking the 10" solid rotors linked above will be fine, SC vented rotors are probably too large to work well with my GT6 front brakes.
I can slot or drill the rotors myself, a perk of having a CNC mill.

Need to find out what axles to get in order to narrow it appropriately.
