I have been fabricating Haynes Roadster parts since 2002 and selling through ebay uk and the Haynes forum, I have come up with a way of fitting the standard mk1+2 early and late MX5/Maita diffs in to the standard book spec Haynes Roadster rear suspension cage. The top pics are the mk1 version of my fabricated cover mounted in the chassis and the grit blasted item is the finished item, this is intended to be used with the nose mounting bracket in the last pic.

That looks like a good idea.

I wonder if you could also work wishbone mounts into it. If your IRS used trailing arms then the transverse links would just require two mounts at the front edge of your unit and avoid stressing the shell very much.
