I've got a bunch of pictures and a slightly different assembly method in my build log:

This is a great old thread. I bookmarked it years ago, planning to use it on my build. I'm going to bump it for newer builders as it gives an inexpensive, easy way to prototype control arms before committing to metal. Note a link to a slightly different use of the method in the posting just above.

In my case, I ended up using circle track uppers, which are 5/8" threads, and the lower is a screw-in ball joint ring, which will require welded control arms.

I wonder if this method could be adapted to 5/8" threads?

Cheers,

I had the same desire for mocking my front suspension and ended up buying some 7/8" pine dowel (I think it was around $4.50 for a 4 or 5' stick) from Home Depot. SUPER fast to cut, drill, and tap... as in just a few minutes. Worked perfectly for my needs.
