MV8 seems to have the best solution here. Build an aluminum bar the width you need and use a GM center pivot rack.
Agreed 110%. Make the effective "rack width"anything you need. Sort of unknown turns/inch of travel, it seems to be the ideal solution, and cheap too.

Maval Gear will do custom-width Mustang II racks. I was headed that way but discovered that I needed a rack that was within half or 3/4 of an inch of an MGB rack so I simply changed my track width and spacing of my A-arm pivots and did another string computer iteration to confirm that it would be OK to go with an MGB rack. Car is nowhere near finished but a rough bump steer test was encouraging.

It is not beyond the wit of man to do an initial design and then adjust things to fit a stock rack. OK, maybe I are an engineer.

Keeping with the Locost theme, It is tough to beat the $67.79 (no core) price for a 1982 Cavalier rebuilt rack at RockAuto.

Does anyone know the distance from the centerline to the steering shaft pinion on the GM rack mentioned by MV8? Do they use a 17mm DD joint?

Thanks
Sean
