The mid 90s Dodge caravan hubs were a bolt on affair and should be cheap. Bolt pattern is 5x100 See below for other applications:

In my opinion this is a notable drawback when it comes to lightweight wheel availablility. I would think it best to try to find 4x100 or 4x114.3/4.5...Or maybe 5x114.3/4.5 too, if you're using wheels larger than 15".

The Chevy Cobalt base model uses a bolt in hub assembly that looks pretty compact and uses a four lug pattern. 4x108 Cost about $45 a pop.

Actually Caravans came with both a 5x100 and a 5x114. Models that came with 14" wheels were the 5x100, 15" or 16" wheels came with the 5x114. It would also be easier to use the rear bolt on hubs as they are preloaded so you wouldn't have to machine the end of a cv axle to use them on the front. Look as my build log and in the resource section for information and drawings of how I used this hub for custom uprights. (Which I'll machine for $150 "shameless plug" :mrgreen: )

I don't think that 5x100 really is a setback as far as wheels go. Both WRXs and most modern VWs used this bolt pattern. Try finding lots for those 4x108s or 4x105? the focus uses. :roll:

Also note how all these hubs bolt on. if the hub is threaded for bolts then it will have a protusion on the inside that needs to fit in a precision machined hole to locate it. If the hub has smooth though holes then it is usually flat on the inside.

This catalog is gold. Starting on page 487 is a section called 'Hub Unit Bearing / Bearing Module - Numerical Listing' that has enough information to allow you to spot hubs for your bolt pattern and wheel nut size. From the number of splines you can tell if it is for a driven wheel.

I found one that looks pretty likely for my use in Haynes-type uprights. It's HA590240, used in the Mitsubishi Galant (4X114.3). The internal diameter is 1 mm bigger than my axle, but I figure that a driveshaft shop could take care of that. I'll keep looking and make sure that I understand all the dimensions, but it's encouraging.

I thought so too. I'm using a LS3 Corvette engine, and since the Vette uses bolt on hubs front and rear that mate to universal uprights, I figured why not just use those. I must admit though that they aren't exactly low-cost. The catalog gives you the exact dimensions for front and/or rear hubs, and the part numbers.

I would like to correct this, as I'm on the hunt for bolt-on hubs. The Cobalt is a 4x100 hub. The drive hubs are bolt on, as are the non-drive hubs.

The Toyota MR2 Spyder has Bolt-on Hubs in the front with 4x100. The Prius has a similar rear hub.

I'm trying to get my hands on one to see how it would fit a single seater, but there seems to be a bit of variation in the pictures I can find on the web (possibly people are just being lazy and not using the correct picture).

Unfortunately, it looks like the Corolla the Cobalt was based on was never sold here in Australia, so I may have to import some.

The Cobalt was never related to the Corolla... it is built on a pure GM platform (Delta), built in Lordstown, Ohio.

You may be thinking of the NUMMI cars (1985 to 1988 Chevrolet Nova, 1989-2002 Chevrolet/Geo Prizm, Toyota Sprinter, Corolla Seca) built in the Toyota/GM joint venture plant in California. That is one of the two platforms the Cobalt replaced, the Cavalier being the other.

The late 2004 to (April) 2009 Holden Astra is the Australian "Cobalt" (Delta platform). That doesn't always mean ALL the parts are interchangable worldwide, of course.

Cobalt is at the end of it's life, being replaced by the Cruze (GM Delta II platform) later this year.

I must have got confused, looks like it was the Prizm I was thinking of (my expertise on ADM econoboxes is lacking). It matters not, it looks like we've come up with a cheaper, lighter solution anyway.

80's Honda Accord has big vented discs and 5 x 114.3 but the calipers are heavy.

Toyota Camry doesn't as well as a host of other Jap and German cars I am aware of so it pays to check.
