Mainly to lower the engine 4+", I'd like to dry sump the CBR1000RR motor I've got for a BEC.

Problem, no external way to drive a scavenge pump. Options:

1. Ridiculously expensive conventional dry sump system. Not even sure where it would get driven from.

2. Try to install a scavenge pump internally and drive with the existing pump shaft.

3. Electric external scavenge pump. Is there such a thing?

Maybe something like this would work, I think they are for turbo scavenging. Not sure how many GPM I'd need.

Something to keep in mind, dry sump systems generally have way more scavenge than pressure pumps. The norm seems to be 3-1, although I have seen more. I've also seen 2-1 setups, but never less. This is done primarily because the return oil is usually highly aerated. If you go with an electric, you'll have to make sure its capacity exceeds that of the pressure pump at fulls revs by a ratio of at least 2-1. I think more would be better.

I was part of a group that did this on an F4i engine. We put the scavenge pumps in the pan and drove the assembly from a sprocket on the oil pump shaft (a chain near the clutch drove the factory oil pump and our additional spocket was towards the middle of the engine). The custom scavenge pump was two stages and used the internals from the stock oil pump. We kept the factory oil pump for the high pressure side.

Mike, good point on an electric, I guess unless you can change the speed of the electric motor, you have to have it spinning to work at your max RPM.

Graham, thanks for the link, very neat group.

Andrew, so by 2 stages you mean it was simply 2 stock pumps in parallel? So 2:1. And I was thinking to use the stock pump for the high pressure.

Yes - that is correct. Each scavenge pump had its own pickup but fed into a common outlet.
