So I was just going through my regular random thoughts about all things car. One thing I want to do is build a little go-kart for my son (As he loooves being pushed around on some toddler walker thing we have). I worked out cheap $5 wheels and some rolled steel rod for axles etc. I was just going to make a little box either out of wood or metal when I get the welder.

Then it hit me. Why don't I make a Mini7. No I don't mean the Mini Se7ens that I used to race, I mean a mini version of the locost that we all seem to love. My passion was always Minis and it would be great to get him a pedal/electric Mini as his first car, but there aren't any good Mini ones out there. What is out there is mostly the NEW MINI or hideously expensive or just a bit shoddy.

So rather than a Mini Se7en, why not build him a Mini Se7en(!

It could be a neat learn-to-weld project. I could make it single seater or 2 seater in case he wants to take his guuuuuuurlfriend for a ride round the house/garden/park. I could make it pedal or electric, but if it's metal it will probably be too heavy to pedal. I haven't put any thought yet into the size. If I had it so that it was proportionally the correct size for him it would probably be too big for a toy car. So maybe sit 'above' it like most toy cars seem to be.

I guess I could get away with pretty small tubing for this as there won't be much weight/stress on the thing and if it does break.. it won't be like he will be going over about ~8mph, ever (I need to be able to run after him and catch him in an emergency. Probably have a remote cutoff too). It's probably a ridiculous idea, but until I think the idea out of my head with rationality, it's there, in my head, wasting brain time...

Any thoughts?

Tom...

I actually think that would be really cool. Although, I'm still imagining how big a motor I could put in something like that...

haha figures it's already been done. I'll just have to do it the 'locost way' :)

On the USA7s site I saw someone with a nice Seven on a trailer, then crosswize behind it a little Seven. Looked like it had the same effort put into it, so not cheap. Cute though. I think it was thread about trailors.

The dimensions of a Se7en are such that a standard Kart would be about 1/2 scale. Just work up a body. Shouldn't be a biggie for a Locoster!
