Am I crazy, or does this have possibilities?
I keep seeing ads for aluminum trim coils or aluminum flashing on Craigslist. These are 50 foot long rolls by 24 " wide of .020 thick aluminum. Painted or vinyl clad on one side, bare aluminum on the other.

Seems like enough material to skin a Locost (minus the bonnet) for about $20

0.020" is too thin. I don't think you could keep it from getting dented or punctured. I used a little 0.025" on my car for small things; 0.032" would have been a better choice.

2 x 20 = 40.

Glue sheets together with some non-corrosive silicone sealant, cut down rattles and other noises to boot.

Cheap's idea is a work-around for thickness, but won't address the softness of flashing. The stuff will bend or crease if you look at it sideways.

I was a little concerned about how soft it is.

There are two different materials that keep showing up for sale. One is flashing and the other is for making siding trim. Both seem pretty darn flimsy.

I'm skinning the R1 with a combination of .032 and .050
