What do you guys think about shoehorning a NA Miata into a Triumph TR4?

I got a call from a guy who knows a guy... Anyway, there's a TR4 that might befor sale that's been sitting for about 30 years.
From what I understand it needs everything. With that said, it'll probably be cheap, and not likely worth a genuine restoration.

What about a fun resto mod?
Cram a Mazda 1.6 and 5 speed under the bonnet and have some fun.

Thoughts???

I know, I know, too many projects, etc. etc. etc.
The newest 7 is near the end of heavy fab and almost ready for wiring. I anticipate a first run in late January

The Mini is on the back burner still waiting on bodywork to be finished. When it comes out of paint the assembly process is 2 or 3 weekends.

Thinking ahead toward what's next.

Seen it done. At an All-British car show a few months ago. Maybe it was a Spitfire. I have a picture somewhere.

I've seen it done to a couple of Spits.

I think the taller front end of a 4 would make for an easy swap, but I've never looked at one up close with that in mind before.

Sounds like a fun project. Any particular reason to not go with a 1.8 or larger?

not really, just availability.
NAs come up at donor price point a lot more than NBs around here.

I don't think it would handle as well or be as much fun as the Miata. It would make a fun project though. That is, if you really like the style of the TR4. If the price is right and you have the urge, go for it.

Turns out he was smoking crack when he thought about what the car was worth.
Talked to him for a while trying to find some common ground, couldn't make a deal.

My main rule is if you can't buy it right, there's no point to taking on a project.

Like in realestate, always make your money on the buy in.

I've been a sucker for Porsche 924s mainly because of the fun factor to price point. I bought one 6 years ago for $450. Sold it 4 months later for $750. missed the car, wanted another one. started looking. Came across one with a "for sale price" of $1 on the ad. It was rough, needed floors, a fuel pump and interior from a leaking sun roof. Upon asking the guy how much he wanted - he replied with $3200.... wat. he said, well.. yanno.. its a Porsche.. so..

I havent looked for one since.

When I asked what he wanted, he says "I gotta have at least 5 for it".
I poke around and start a running tally on replacement panels, wheels, tires, wiring, paint, interior...
Yeah, I can do $500

"Oh no, I gotta have 5000. Fixed up this car is worth 100 grand..."

delusional

Very much so, I'd say. Best to just walk away.
