I've done a nice rear engine mount system for the Suzuki/Chevy/Geo Metro engine, it fits on a 2" square tube subframe, if you want to connect with me off list I'll send you the drawings and/or parts. They're quite light (14 gauge mount on 16 gauge tubes), they could be made more simply (less triangulation) from heavier stock, but then I think then you'd need heavier tubes to keep them from tearing out in an accident--and let's face it, one of the big issues with midi design is keeping the powerplant out of the cockpit in an impact. Since my background is aircraft, I'm using 30 Gs as my target...I don't know if there's an SAE figure for rear engine mount strength, so I go with what I know, and for a 30 G engine mount this is pretty dang light.

Fab skills, hah! I have strong conceptualizing skills, novice origami skills, adequate engineering skills, good 2D CAD skills, very good structural testing skills, and a splendid working relationship with a commercial laser cutter. My fab skills are limited to a bench-mounted Makita steel saw and the good sense to let professionals weld anything I intend to ship.

The rusty 1" tube in the foreground (first photo) is a temporary brace while I figure out the firewall forward part of the car; it'll be a while before this photo makes the transition from a comment on somebody else's Search For Efficiency thread to an illustration on my own Non-Traditional Build Log thread. Meanwhile, if they can save somebody a reinvention of the wheel, these engine/trans mounts are at your service.

I'm looking forward to that!

Still surprises me the amount of Guys who rip into a chunk of steel without simply testing/shaping up a simple piece of cardboard first ..? :o
