Thanks, looks good.

I decided to go with the 16's for better street tire options and I did a lot of searching around here for BECs and found plenty with normal 15-16" wheels so driveability can't be that bad with the torque that a busa puts out.

yes, good tires in 13 inch are hard to find, however, they are better suited to a light car.

A 15 or 16 inch wheel will make your life easier as far as knuckle packaging is concerned..

You might want to have a look at 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels. They look nice, they're light, and on their website they have a cross sectional drawing so you can see how your brakes will fit.

Thanks a lot. I'll have to call them for scale drawings or a few dimensions.

5Zigen can't help unless I provide a scale cross sectional template of my rotor/hat/caliper, the opposite of what I'm asking them to provide me. I'm just going to stick with the Enkei's for now since they have more offset options and are slightly lighter.

Adjusted my offset tonight to 30mm which put my rotor face 30.32"/29.32" from the centerline of the car. This allowed me to begin the suspension design by setting the lower ball joint out as far as possible.

If you're just looking for an idea if it will fit, import that image of the wheel cross sections into solidworks, scale it, and trace around it for the profile and revolve it. I did this and found the cross section picture is dimensionally accurate to the wheel. I modeled the 16x7 in a 4x100 et42 already if you want to use that.

15's actually have more options than 16's, just FYI.
16" is the wheel size that got skipped on, by the time that everyone got around to upsize their 15's, 17" wheels were already becoming very popular, therefore tire manufacturers never really developed too many tires for them.

Not much comes up on tire rack. I'll stick with the 16's for the larger brake option. I know I'll need it.

The most popular wheel with the miata guys seems to be the 6UL by 949 racing. It comes in 15x7, 15x7.5, 15x8, and 15x9. And hoosier makes a 275/35/15 A6 that fits the 9" wheel perfectly.

Took a little time today at work to make the follow up call to Taylor Race. My drivetrain bits outward from the differential will likely be comprised of the following...

Part # Item Price Qty Total
INV-02004131 TULIP STYLE OUTBOARD STUB AXLE $197.00 x2 $394.00
INV-02002011 tripod joint $65.00 x4 $260.00
INV-02003162 inboard fixed pivot plug $12.00 x2 $24.00
INV-02003191 halfshaft fsae $189.00 x2 $378.00
INV-0200281 SMALL TRIPOD CIRCLIP $1.00 x4 $4.00
INV-02002074 BOOT $21.50 x4 $86.00
INV-0200422 WHEEL FLANGE $199.00 x2 $398.00
INV-02003161 $12.00 x2 $24.00
INV-02003164 $3.00 x2 $6.00
INV-02003166 $3.00 x2 $6.00

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total Extended Amount $1,580.00

Gives me plenty more to model but the hub is an 84 Rabbit style spline so I could possibly save some money there though it will weigh more and I haven't figured out what wheel bearing I need.

Wow, neat.

What do you estimate the odds to be that you will ever actually build this thing?

Very good to excellent. It'll be a few years though before I even start buying parts because I'm waiting to buy a house.

Life has a way of intervening, in fact it's what's actually happening while your planning. Might as well save the planning until your more ready. You'll appreciate being able to change your mind about so many things...

Long story short I didn't get a job as a racecar engineer after graduating last year. Designing and building this car is my replacement for working in a sector I didn't really want to be in. Economics is a bitch.

The good thing about this is I get to design the whole car, which wouldn't happen if I made it onto any professional racing team.

If it takes 10 years then so be it. I still plan on having it fully designed in about a year. My girlfriend/soon to be fiance already has our downpayment saved up though so that may speed it up a bit! Enough about me and life and all that boring stuff though. Enjoy the build process or don't...
