Hi Jawfish !
Which Toyo engine are you using ? 16, 20 valves, blue, red,
silver, blacktop ? I might have something of interest.

Thanks Guys...

The car is super predictable and a joy to drive, the only issue was lack of HP for the Back straight at Mosport, but that's an easy fix.

The engine in that one is a 3TC the only difference from my car. In mine I have a Hybrid 16V i.e. Silvertop 20 Valve block, crank and rod. For pistons I have the small port Hi Comp pistons and for the Head I have a large port and cam. I plan on switching to a built Silvertop after a season or two of testing.

Cheers,

Fred

Well got back to working on the car, man the new floor and ligthing in the garage is great.

Put the reinforcement on the shock brackets. Overkill if you ask me, but if I go off track on the rought it should not be a concern.

But that killed my overflow brackets which I needed to cut for that tube, so off i went a fabricated a bracket out of 16 Guage aluminium sheet. I move the overflow to the back of the engine.

here the step by step operation.
made some drawings and measurments

Good call on the front shock brace. When I was designing my frame, I ran some numbers for those mounts and a typical Locost frame built with 1"x1"x0.065" mild steel is questionable under a 5G bump.

It probably won't rip off but it wouldn't surprise me if they moved some. With the brace, the numbers said it wasn't going anywhere*.

*disclaimer: actual results may vary

Hey Andrew, from personal experience they don't rip... They twist the tube like a pretzel, I have to admitt having our mounting points for the shock so far out that it act like a lever, hence increase the twisting force applied to the tube. Marc's car had an encounter with curb a few years back. Both brackets twisted upward, 1 lower Arm bent, and the lower corner of the chassis was pushed 6 inches. None of the welds gave up and no tube ripped, they just bent... If the impact would have been a greater speed, they sure would rip, right beside the weld. I was actually surprise to see so much bending yet not find a rip.

This is much twist there was from the Shock bracket

Yup thats the corner, pushed back were it doesn't belong

The fix was simple enougt, cut the dammaged part and weld a new section, this is actually something really cool as a track car. Repairs are easier than when dealing with a tub car.

Yo, Fred-
I think you made a good decision as to bracing across the frame between coilover mounts. There has to be a lot of stress on those points, and a cross brace will eliminate any flex/bending that might occur. Can't say that it for sure would occur without it, but now the "worry" is eliminated. I went through the same exercise on mine, and put a cross piece of DOM tubing between the coilover mounts, with bracing down across the frame rail.

You can just make out the weld on the far side, where the plate goes between the square tubing and the DOM and extends down the side of the rail.

It must be good, we got inspected by GEICO:

Car is looking really good Fred, actually both of 'em are!

Thanks Gonzoracer,

Love the gecko, so cool...

Got a little more done ,

Catch nuts are riveted on the scuttle. no more clocos, the firewall now screws in the scuttle. I'll be able to remove the scuttle if we have dash issues.

Made a small bracket for the fule pressure regulator. This time it's 1/8 steel weled to the chassis. Since this is fuel I'm not taking a chance, plus it's small so the weigt penalty is not the end of the world.

Slowly but surely were getting there...

The Dzus are riveted on the boot pannel.

I then made a quick battery tray with some corner steel pieces, nothing complicated. Once done I welded 6 bolts, 4 to bolt on the tray to the chassis, 2 to hold down the battery.

Yo, Fred!
Deck lid and attachments look really good! Well done!

I also like the lime green detail work... Really makes things pop out! It's cool!
(I might be biased.)
