I want these as my headlights, mainly because I love Hella and they will be sexy:

But will they be able to get the car registered on the road? (In NY state). I know they would need to be DOT approved...

Also, does anyone happen to know if there are any regulations as to where headlights need to be mounted? (And if so, what are they?)

Those are driving lights and for offroad use only. If the end of the bulb and the top half of the light were covered to prevent blinding other drivers, it still would not be DOT approved.

The traditional dune buggy type 7" lamps with the big chrome dome behind it may look funny, but it is much more aero than a flat backed light, which is designed to clear a grill or other bodywork in a driving light installation.

Hella Makes DOT approved headlamps. Check out Rallylights.com. They are in the supplier's forum.

In the regulations forum, there should be a section for your State and light height regulation was discussed a few weeks ago.

Yeah I figured that may be the case, but I really want those awesome black reflectors from the Black Magic series...

I have no idea how they are set up, but I wonder if I could put the black reflectors in normal Hella Headlights.
