AMBUSH IN THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS
ALL 7s ARE INVITED!!!!
Updated Details:

A regular stop for us is at the Dawsonville Pool Room (http://www.motorsportamerica.com/adv/da ... index.html) for lunch one day.

Also in Dawsonville is the new Atlanta Motorsports Park (http://atlantamotorsportspark.net/). AMP is nearing the end of construction and is welcoming us to have a tour of the facility and hear the vision behind the project.

For those that want to take a detour, there is also the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame (http://www.thunderroadusa.com/Museum.html) a mile from the Pool Room
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Ambush will be held from September 18 thru the 22nd 2011 and centered around Helen, Ga.
Glad to see some interest from some non-Stalkers! All 7s enthusiasts are welcome!!!
HISTORY
Paul Whittle has organized an event for Stalker owners for the past several years called the Ambush.
Ambush is a Brunton Stalker owners group get together held on an annual basis for the last 5 years in Helen, GA.
The Smoky Mountains of Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina have some of the best driver's roads in the world.
The Ambush is several loosely organized drives thru the best hilly, curvy and picturesque roads I know of. In the evenings we tend to gather at a local restaurant or have a cookout at the friendly campground many of us stay at. We will probably split into a couple of groups for the drives. There will be a group that drives very "briskly" and other group(s) that are more leisurely. We also tend to gather at an interesting place each day for lunch.

We usually avoid the Tail of the Dragon because it tends to have lots of traffic. Paul is a local and knows roads that are less traveled and even better than the Dragon!

There is no organized track day or entry fee. Just pay your own expenses.

Accommodations:
Once again we will be at the Riverbend Motel and the Creekwood Resort Campgrounds and Cabins.

The Riverbend has a lot of space for trailer parking and a decent amount of covered parking for the cars. It is a short walking distance to the shops and restaurants of Helen and is on the river bank.
Riverbend typically puts on breakfast of muffins, etc and a conference room for us to congregate in the mornings.

Mark from Riverbend has dropped the price again this year to $72.21 per night for our group, effective from Sunday 18th - Thursday 22nd. If you want rooms over Friday, Saturday before and after, standard rates will apply. As of 6/10/2011, they are running $89.99 per night which is much better than the $203/night it was in early June.

For RV's Melissa and Robert at Creekwood are looking forward to us being back this year. They also have some great cabins available if you are more than a party of 2, or can arrange to be!

Creekwood has a few very nice cabins also

One more accomodation option is to rent local Locost hotshoe Heikki Rinta-Koski's cabin in Helen. Heikki took 3rd overall at the Tail of the Dragon Hill climb in June in his home built Locost. Here is a 2007 video of him at RockingHam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHGMtfEQeX8

If I can't talk him into getting his Locost street registered, I hope he will bring his 6.2L V8 Boss Hoss. He is fun to follow through the twisites. He rides it like he drives his Locost! It is truly a sight to see!
Details of Heikki's cabin can be found below:

If you would prefer to stay elsewhere that is perfectly OK also.

Here is the latest update from Paul on Ambush.

Let me know if I do not have you on the list, and if you are not on the mailing list send me an email so I can send you direct updates.
The 2011 Ambush will be September 18th-22nd. This is 2 weeks after Labor day.

Glad to see some take up from some non-Stalkers! All are welcome!

History

The Brunton Stalker owners have been getting together on an annual basis for what will be 5 years in 2011 with the last 3 years and this one based in Helen, GA.

This is a low-key affair with minimal organized activities except for daily drives on fantastic roads and an informal get together for dinner each night. The drives will typically stop for lunch somewhere interesting. The Riverbend typically puts on breakfast of muffins, etc and a conference room for us to congregate in the mornings.

Events

Daily drives and informal dinners

Schedule

Sunday - Some short drives around the Helen area to accomodate the people arriving that day.

Meeting point will be the Riverbend in the parking lot.

Monday - A long day with some fantastic roads!

Meet at RiverBend at 8:30AM full of fuel for a 9:00AM sharp departure.

We will drive from Helen to Maggie Valley, NC for lunch.

Following lunch, we will tour the Wheels Through Time Museum (http://www.wheelsthroughtime.com) with a group discount price of $10 per head.

Then we will head back to Helen.

I expect we will drive just over 350 miles that day and we will take in some of the best roads around to include War Woman Road from Clayton, GA towards Highlands, NC.

Tuesday - Trips a little closer to Helen, with just as wonderful roads!

Take the long way to Dawsonville, GA, the home of Million Dollar Bill Ellliott of Nascar fame!

Lunch at the DawsonVille Pool Room (http://www.motorsportamerica.com/adv...oom/index.html). Jeremy Porter (CEO) and Becky Powell (Operations) from Atlanta Motorsports Park will be joining us for lunch.

Tour of Atlanta Motorsports Park (http://atlantamotorsportspark.net/) AMP is nearing the end of construction and is welcoming us to have a tour of the facility and hear the vision behind the project.

(Alternate or also, the the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame (http://www.thunderroadusa.com/Museum.html) is a mile from the Pool Room)

Return to Helen, the long way.

Wednesday

Meet at Creekwood Resort at 8:45AM with full tanks for a 9:15AM prompt departure

Drive to Caffe Rel in Franklin, NC for an 11:00 AM lunch appointment. This lets us miss the lunch crowd and get back to driving the roads.

Caffe Rel is known as one of the best restaurants in the area whose owner, Richard, is a Porsche owner and auto enthusiast.

Thursday - TBA

Fees

None.

Subject: [stalkerv6] 2011 Ambush Dates - September 18-22 - Update 7

Update 7 Details:

Only 1 more week!! I am getting excited!

The weather this weekend was just fabulous! Hopefully it is the same next week! Bring a jacket or sweater to wear. I expect we will need them in the mornings and perhaps evenings as well!

There was one more move from Riverbend to one of the cabins at Creekwood. The regular rate is only $100 per night for the three bedroom cabins which is a great, great deal. There is also the one-bedroom economy cabin which is $80 per night. Give Melissa a call to see which ones are still available.

This means that the main meeting place will be Creekwood rather than Riverbend. The schedule below has been updated to reflect this.

Please remember that we need everyone to start each day with full gas tanks and empty bladders. The closest gas to Creekwood is 6 miles back to Helen.

Monday night, we will go to The Attic in Clarkesville. More fine food! The fried or grilled shrimp is amazing and baked potatoes are a house specialty! http://theatticrestaurant.com/

The destination for Thursday will be determined by popular vote of the group during the week.

I have officially sold the Airstream, and working a deal on a new (to me) motorhome. If all goes according to plan, and what ever does :), Barb and I will fly to Buffalo NY on Thursday night, get orientation on the new motorhome on Friday morning, then drive it the 900 miles for Atlanta to get my Stalker before heading up to Helen. If things don't go according to plan, I will be calling Melissa for a cabin, or asking who wants a room mate in their cabin. I don't eat much. Well, yes I do! But I don't snore!

Cherik,

I apologise for misspelling your name on the last update. I have corrected it on this one.

Let me know if I do not have you on the list, and if you are not on the Stalker mailing list send me an email so I can send you direct updates.
