i've been drawing a home made upright that will get my upper a-arm at a better angle for camber change during body roll.

the question is:
is there a negative affect from extending the upper part of the upright? that is, what relationship should there be between the spindle center line and the upper and lower ball joints?

There's bonuses for making the lower BJ as low as possible (as close to the ground as possible) - production cars tend to have high lower BJ's for ground clearance reasons.

The higher the upper BJ the less stresses it will suffer and the less play will affect dynamics especially if you are using rubber bushes.

The downside of a large BJ 'spread' is weight and space as the upright is simply bigger.

thanks. so far what i think i'm seeing when using "wishbone" program is that raising the upright as opposed to lowering the upper arm pivot is the roll center seems to have a great deal of lateral movement with the tall upright. i'll mess with it some more to confirm this. so far my drawings are not exactly comparable.
