Oh yeah regarding the hard fuel line. It's not tacked in yet as I wanted to see how the shifter & cables would impact things. I might elevate the fuel line above the coolant tubes and tack it in along one side of the tunnel to get it up & out of the way. Definitely getting a bit crowded in there.

Regarding the PCV, am I correct in assumming that the PCV goes in one valve cover and a breather goes in the other and that it doesn't really matter which goes into which cover?

Yes. You could also run a breather on each side and no pcv depending on the rules in your area.

For fuel line fittings I used some high temp sealant that is recommended for NOS applications but it is also fuel proof. I think it was this stuff...

I like the look of the fittings you have over the ends of the hoses.
What radiator are you using? Is it the same Bobcat one Pook put on Marty's car?

:)

Yes the rad is the same as Marty's (Holland 4 row made for a skid steer). Hoping it will do the trick without a fan.

Looking good Pook!!

Made a little progress this weekend. Two steps forward, one back. Decided to add the coolant bypass hose, that seems to be a requirement on SBC's with vortec heads. 1st attempt - tried 90° elbow fittings on water pump & intake manifold. Couldn't turn them due to intake & pump obstructions. 2nd attempt - got straight pipe fittings. 1 fits, the other still tough to get at with wrench/sockets but got it 1/2 way in. Should be water tight....but the hose kinks due to sharp bends. I just discovered that Performance Steel makes 90° elbows that are extended to clear obstructions and can be had in 2 parts for tight spots. They're on order. I will then be able to shorten the hose.

Also removed the heater hose fitting... as I won't be needing one to these. Again it was tough to get at the nut for removal since Chevy put an extra reinforcement ridge adjacent to the heater hose port. Had to buy more tools.....

Water temp sensor will most likely go up on the intake manifold, as shown.
Oil pressure sensor will go back near distributor or near oil filter. In either case, I will needa a 90° adapter to make it fit.

Any excuse to buy tools is good IMHO!
Looks like your getting there!

I'm guessing the pipe fitting in the pump and head are 1/2" npt. Thats also way more flow than necessary to prevent hot spots and would provide a much slower warm up.

You could use a premade brake line with 3/8-24 inf fittings, two 1/2" to 1/8" brass reducer bushings, and two brass 1/8" male npt to 3/8-24 inf brake adapters. Reducers and fuel line barbs are another, much easier to bend option compared to heater hose.

On second thought, just plug both and drill two 1/8" holes in the stat.

Too many and it won't warm up. Easy enough to replace if you have too many holes.

OK let me try the 90° elbows I have already on order first. If that doesn't eliminate the kinks, I'll try the hard line option.

Alrighty. I need some additional advice:

1) Do I actually need a thermostat & if so, where does it go?

2) Is it OK to add a second shim behind the crank pulley to align it with the water pump pulley? I've used the thickest shim in the 3-shim kit and pulleys are still slightly out of alignment.

3) I have dual groove pulleys on the water pump & crank and a single groove pulley on the alternator. Should I be using I belt or two to connect these 3 devices? If two belts are used, how would I tension the belt between crank & pump?

4) Does anybody know if they make a smaller oil pressure sensor with a 1/8" stem (than the traditional size sensor for a SBC)? My 90° elbow concept didn't work in either location (near distributor or above oil filter) due to obstructions or limited space. Does anyone know of a third location to deploy an oil pressure sensor on a SBC?

5) Finally, question for BT - What e-brake set up did you use??

1) Yes, you need a stat. I suggest a 180. It goes between the water neck and the intake manifold with a treated paper gasket and a thin smear of silcone.

Failsafe stats fail open versus closed, but they fail much sooner than a standard stat in my experience. Pay more and get a good, brand name stat.

2&3) I think you may have the wrong short pump for those pulleys. There are two different length, short water pumps for the sbc. Standard is 5.625" long. Corvette is 5.8125" long. That is a difference of less than a 1/4 inch and doable with shims. A better option is to mill the pump mounting surface if there is enough timing cover clearance. Best thing to do is swap the pump.

4) Use a short tube with pipe thread on both ends in the block, to get the female elbow above the intake for clearance to rotate. Home Depot or Lowes have the fittings in steel or brass.

I think I put a 180deg in there? The neck you have is a swivel style using an oring vs a gasket so you could aim it for best routing. I didn't tighten it (that locks the angle) so pull the hose a look inside then lock her down.
That's awesome info on the pump....I had no clue and that sure explains a LOT!
If you replace the pump look for one with two sets of pulley mount holes (or at least the correct spacing) as the vett style didn't fit the pulley so I drilled and tapped the flange, kind of cheesy I know but I couldn't figure out why nothing fit....now I do and should have asked!
