It was time to clean the garage this weekend, so everything went outside. I set on some body parts, and took a few pics.

That looks like my yard... yard-work having taken a backseat to car fabrication!

I must have spent days staring at the steering shaft, trying to figure out how to clear the turbo outlet. I was beginning to think I'd just make a new outlet, that pointed in another direction.

Then, I realized I could just extend the steering column before the first u-joint. I already wanted a new column since my donor was stripped of turnsignal switches and ignition key. So, I bought a column off ebay for $25 and cut mine apart to lengthen it.

I'm pretty pleased with the way it has turned out. I only have the 2 factory u-joints.
Shortened rack is in place. Just need steering arm extenders.

The process of extending it seems straight forward, but I took pictures and can share them if anyone cares.

Any chance you can post a pic of what your rear upper arms look like at ride height? Your build is very close to what I am building (Haynes/Vodou/Saturn). I have been keeping a close eye on your progress. I just build my rear lower arms and welded in the mounts. I have built one rear upper. Would like to see what yours look like at ride height before I well in the mounts.

Speaking of ride height. What are you shooting for, and on what size tire? I am thinking of running 205/50/15, but when I put the tape next to the car they look very tall.

That's the same tire size I have. I'm setting it up for 5" from the bottom of the frame to the ground.

Took my first drive today. The car's a mess. I had ziptied wiring all over just to get it going. My front thermostat housing leaked, and I had to end the ride early.

That fuel pump is actually quite quiet!

Congratulations on the first drive. I would say just in time to finish the car over the winter months but I see you are in Texas so you get a nice 12 month driving season.

What video/data acquisition system are you using?

Is that rod knock or does the microphone pick up the valve train that clearly?

Valve knock didn't seem out of the ordinary to me, but I rewatched the video, and I notice it now.
It was dumb to drive it, as none of my gauges were working. For all I know, I had no oil pressure.

Video was taken with my iPhone, using the app Harry's lap timer (paid version). I use it in my racecar, and really like it. I have a blutooth GPS for better accuracy, but didnt use it today. I expected a longer drive, and was hoping to see some decent acceleration data.

I gotta come over and view your masterpiece. I'm probably only 30 minutes from you.
