I have been working on this for a while now.
Yamaha R6 - approx 130 hp at 13,500
10" SCCA Formula 500 wheels - 18" tire od.
Chain drive VW Golf differential with inboard brakes
Hope to run with ICSCC (International Conference of Sports Car Clubs) in the Pacific Northwest or just track days.
Skayt'R6 (skate - r - 6) - any better thoughts on a name????

I should have the frame tacked together by the end of next week (baring any further setbacks)

JMR

Forgot to add -- approx 86" wheelbase and 66" overall width (56" rear track and 58" front track)

Very cool build. Look forward to it. You do such nice work.
I fondly remember Conference racing. Raced FF from 83 to 87; SIR, PIR and good old Westwood. Were you around in those days?

Thanks for the comments!
I moved from Southern California in 2005. The Superkart and I did PIR, SIR, Bremerton, Spokane and lastly The Ridge once we were here. Sold the kart last year. The Ridge is a very neat track.

How long does an R6 last at 13,500 Rpm?

A friend of mine, Rick Goodwin, built a number of cars which I believe he called FSR's for Bill Huth of Willow Springs Raceway. The prototype has been thrashed for 2+ years and has the same engine.
Video of Eddie Lawson driving one can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54C8i9acRaY
They are basically karts, no suspension, running Formula 500 road race slicks. Flat shifters and a roll cage of sorts have been added.

That's a confusing course at times. Good video

Thanks Tom, JDK, Carguy and mgkluft.
I ran Streets before they softened the hairpin turn (4?) in my Superkart - 1:19's in 2005. A couple of bumps are still bad but the banked bowl on the back of the course really pulled G's. I think the course is more fun backwards.

I will post progress.

Welded the lower frame rails that will be hidden by other tubes, added a temporary brace to position the rear roll hoop, tacked the front and rear roll hoops and the 4 cockpit side bars. . Engine first fit tomorrow.

Nice! What rack are you using? How wide? How much travel does it have? My rack is a latest rage, 8.5", two inches total travel. I'll be making the tie rod arms shorter on the spindles for a greater degree of turn, but I think my effort may be excessive. I have one inch of travel (to the stop) for 360 degrees of steering wheel rotation in each direction.

The rack I am using is from this company http://www.desertkarts.com/item80862.ctlg Drawing and ratio shown when viewed. Chinese knockoff of a Stilleto rack. Play seams excessive so I will probably either remachine or make a new housing after I get the car running.

You have over twice the travel, but a quicker ratio, so maybe my effort won't be too bad. I can always get a different rack later. My rack was from Taiwan and has no discernable play from what I can tell without a dial indicator test.

I have an electric reverse like Fred in his JZR, so the turning circle needs to be pretty tight.

Some updates and a couple of "tip's" for building headers.
