... Old post I came across in another forum. A "race shop" in TX actually was getting paid to construct this cage in this BMW. He ended up taking so long that the rules changed. So he refunded half the money.. LOL

WOW
Those may not be the worst welds I've ever seen, but they're close. Reminds me of a Boy Scout saying. "if you can't tie a knot, tie a lot."

that is why we have regs, because some "profesional" thought that was an acceptable way of making a roll cage.

now i don't necesarily agree with some of the roll bar regs but at least we are all forced to make to a standard sufficient to keep you alive.

this is also why "red neck engineering" has a bad wrap when there are good hands on engineers out there with no formal training but a good sense of how to make something correctly and safely.

The "race shop" is Chris Taylor at Taylor Rotorsport, or Taylor Motorsport. He was actually paid with another BMW E30 to build the cage. He took so long to build it and did not provide progress reports. He eventually sent photos to the owner who immediately went and picked it up to keep Chris from doing any more harm. Chris did not refund any payment. You can see where Chris "signed" his work "TR" on some of the gussets with a chisel.

Before Taylor Motorsports' lawyers come after you, they are a company in California that has nothing to do with Chris Taylor, (lotta Taylors in this business).
CT is doing business as Chris Taylor Racing Services in Del Valle, TX.
