Been looking for tires for Patches, my Mini project and well... the choices pretty much suck.

Then one ebay search popped up with DOT approved golf cart tires.

These look interesting.

Sorry about the long link script.
Anyway, it's a 215/40 12 tire. 4 ply, B load rating or a 70 / N

That's 760 lbs per tire and 88 mph speed rating. I know that doesn't sound like much, but we're talking about a Mini here. The only way it breaks 88mph is if I drive it off a cliff.

They also sell 78/N and 90/N versions of the same tire in slightly different sizes

What say you all?

What kind of wheels will fit those? You'll get to use those metalworking skills building big fender flares.

I've got a set of Minilites that are 5.5 x 12 with a decent offset.
It'll need a set of arches, but they were always part of my plan.

The other tires that are easier to lay hands on are 145/78 or 155/70 :ack:

I run 165/60-12 on mine. I got them on Ebay a while back. Mini Mania has a large selection but they aren't cheap.

A 215/40 tire on a 5.5" wide wheel sounds very sketchy.

Only sold in the UK now. Shipping cost is more than the tires.

Room for 165 70 12? Yoko Y372, $68 each.

Your rims are 1/2 inch too wide to fit more common stock.

I'd fit normal rims with radials if you plan to drive it a lot.

I don't know how much I plan to drive it. I know it's not a highway car, but some 30ish mile each way trips to work would be nice.

There's a set of worn out 175 50's on the rims right now. I haven't seen that size tire in ages.

yeah, doing some more reading these should go on 7 or 8 inch wide rims.

I'll be tempted to buy a set to thrash about.
