Congratulations on the milestone Moti.

You have no excuse not to have the car running before the year is out. ;)

Hello Moti,

Would you mind telling me what you did to the miata upright to allow it to take the RX7 outer balljoint in that orientation?

Also how did you narrow the rack part of the steering system?

Thank you,
Jules

Bringing this back to life. Just read all 38 pages to come to an ending.... I really hope the car was finished. Such a beautiful and amazing build. I'm now seriously thinking about going R1 BEC...

I always loved this build, I would also love to hear what became of it.

A little light Facebook stalking and Googling shows that Moti seems to be racing a highly modified NB car and custom fabricating roll cages. Which, hey, sounds great to me! Way to go!

What a piece of reference material. If you ever show back up buddy, you deserve an award

Wow, someone recently bumped this build log from the dead!

Been such a long time since I touched the car at all, about 3.5 YEARS since I promised pics of the roller
Poor thing has been collecting dust and surface rust on the table in my garage all this time with it's main use being place for storage of packing materials and such..

But, today, for the first time in years, I spent about an hour working of small issues with the fitment of the front shocks and looking for bolts that have gone missing over time, put the thing together, and for the very first time - had it rolling around on the ground.

And once it was rolling, we rolled it immediately onto my trailer and moved the car to its new home - the new Blackbird Fabworx shop in Canoga Park, CA 8)
Finally, a proper work space where I can tackle the rest of this build and get the thing going.
Took a pic next to my current racecar (named Creampuff) and just enjoyed the moment of seeing this thing on the ground for change.

Image

I'll try to update more as I go, it won't happen fast since I'm currently building another Miata racecar which will hopefully go on a shake down run at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway around the end of the month, and Creampuff is getting completely redone too as a high power, high downforce, low weight rocket.

Welcome back Moti.

Sounds like the business is doing well if you've been that busy.

Thanks guys :)
Business is keeping me busy, and that's a good thing.
Blackbird Fabworx has been reaching farther and faster than I imagined in relatively short time. Cars that we built won both SCCA and NASA national championships, competed in Pike's Peak, time attack divisional champs and more.. BFW products have been sold in almost every continent.
It's been a great ride so far and we're only getting bigger and better at what we do.
The new shop is definitely key part in moving forward.

Which of course brings us to the 7, because it's about time some progress will be made on that one.
It's kinda sad that I have to go back and read my note in this build log to even remember stuff I wanted to / was going to do.
I'm also a bit bummed about looking at some of the things that I built on the car and knowing how much better I can do things now with 7 more years of experience and far better tooling... What was taking months back when I started the build and had to be checked and rechecked to make sure I'm doing things right would have been done in a 1/10th of the time nowadays, with higher accuracy and better results overall.
Oh well, next Locost ;)

Hey Moti,

Followed your posts here and on the Yahoo list. Have missed them and glad to see you posting again. Also good to see the business doing so well.

I'm in the end stage of my build and must agree that the next one would have been much better. Too soon old, too late smart.

Alas there won't be a next one for me. Too old to start another. Taken me 8 years to get this far.

Cheers
