Enough of talking, back to building. I have spent a huge amount of time wiring over the buck. The time consuming part is clamping each joint in place. Had I a Mig welder this would be easier. Just hold each piece and zap. But now I'm done and can start hammering some panels.

I'm eagerly watching this build. Your buck is way ahead of mine and I need to get back to it.

So, you've still got all your fingers left and you're ready to go with that big machine? That would be great. I'm very much looking forward to your success with this project. I've been following it pretty much from the start and know how much you've put into it.

I too am looking forward to the progress. I had bought a MG Midget with the idea of re shelling it. My medium of choice has always been fibreglass, having made lots of plugs and moulds in a former life. I have always wanted to attempt a body in aluminum, better never gathered bravery to "just start". I love the style and proportions of your buck.

As you may know if you read the whole log I started by trying to build a locost using only the Sprite parts. That includes an axle that is too narrow for the standard locost chassis which has the seats pushed inside the rear wheels. Pushing the seats further forward causes the footbox to either be way to narrow or prevents the chassis from having a nice taper from the cowl forward. So rather than build something lumpy I settled on a complete body. One thing leads to another. It has taken quite a while but I have learned a lot. I expect the Berlinetta version will go a lot faster.

To those wondering if I fell of a cliff or perhaps squished a digit or two. The answer is no. I am attempting to learn how to use my power hammer. Turns out some panels are quite simple and some are devilish hard. The type currently giving me fits is the lower rear corner. This part has small radius edges in two planes. This means it has huge shrink AND stretch. I will post a pic when I get a part that isn't too embarrassing.

It can be aggravating to try and get something to happen 10 times in a row that some expert instructor does "matter of fact." It all looks so easy when someone accomplished does it. Based on my two metal shaping classes I've taken so far, I fully understand and commiserate completely.

It's good to hear you're still at it, however!

You seem like too much of a perfectionist.My suggestion is you should build one body thats not perfect for practice and give that one to me I'll pay for the materials.

Here are some pics of a part I am having a problem with. It has both shrink and raised areas. I have a problem with shrinking because it really makes the panel look wonky, think wading up tin foil. So I planish it out and it gets too flat. So I shrink it some more. Or put walnuts in it. Knowing which to use and how much seems to be what I need to learn.

This panel should look better when it has been annealed and trimmed for welding. I hope. As you can see I am not a perfectionist.

That's a tough shape to make...

I think a little more shrink in the short bottom edge will put more crown into it and make it look fuller.

What you can't see due to my lousy photography is that quite a bit of the bottom edge gets cut away.

Nice work Tim, Many moons ago I mashed an ali panel on my Aston DBS and the guy that repaired it used a variety of shrinking hammers, it seems incredible that striking a panel with a hammer and dolly can actually draw material in rather than spread it. He managed to get all the dents out and used very little filler.

Interesting video but not much new to a body repair guy. It would be interesting to know how many hours he spent on that fender. Also, I wonder how long it took to pull out the fender liner. It must have had one. You can't imagine what gravel does to an alloy wheel well.
