So I completed my first track day in the car and did more or less a shakedown of it. Everything held up extremely well other than the cooling system. During my second session the engine started getting super hot... I mean really hot. I was seeing temps over 260 degrees, so at that point I shut it down and brought it in. Thankfully doesn't appear to be any head gasket damage, so I think I got lucky.

So I have now been addressing that issue. I have ducted the radiator, will be switching to a water/ water wetter mix, and performing a coolant reroute on the miata motor. I regret not doing the coolant reroute before, because I did not leave myself much room to pull it off.

With all that said, the car is very fast. So I'm happy.

Video: This was from the very first session, so disregard the terrible driving. https://youtu.be/-ymMPKPA4HU

Very cool, Dave. Definitely something I'd like to do someday, but with a better engine and tires. How loud is the car? That could be an issue for me at some of my local tracks. And what tires did you run?

I had major cooling issues when I first got my car running. A new radiator fixed it. Not sure if you're already doing this, but you might try a bottle of one of those coolant enhancers. I think Redline makes one.

Not sure how loud, the track has a strict 98db limit, and no one said anything. The car seems very loud when I'm in it, but that doesn't mean much when your sitting 2' from the engine. Tires are Toyo R1R, and are pretty good, will probably switch to toyo r888 on the next set.

I'm hitting the coolant system with everything I can. Water Wetter is on that list. The coolant reroute should be the big fix. Should have that done in the next couple days.

Loving your car Dave. I was lucky enough to see it in person at AMP the day you were there. I can say I have wanted to buis one of these for a while and yours made my mind up for me. I am welding up the frame now and have already got myself an engine and transmission from a 2003 s2000. Should be much quicker than my supercharged BRZ!
Will you be at the next track night event sept 29th?

I'm amazed at how quiet the car is.

None of the usual clunks & rattles, well except for the strap blowing in the wind right by the camera.

Not a lot of drama, that's good.

I've just got one rattle/clunk that i cant identify. You can hear it in the videos seems to be coming from the left rear corner when there is suspension travel. It may just be the heim joints on the coilover. Or possibly the axle.

Anyway, the car has been great on track. Very drivable and very recoverable when stuff starts to come loose. My only regrets have been not going with the toyo r888 tires... Which i might switch to after the winter. I also wish i had done some sort of sway bar setup. The body roll isnt to bad, but roll bars would be a good improvment

I wouldn't mind seeing videos of the other cars with you on track, hearing that supercharger whine as you blow past them has got to be an amazing sound. Hahaha

Do you plan on getting an extra set of wheels and slicks for track days?

Dave, remove the "s" from https then I think it'll work.

Yup. That's it.

Made some revisions to the fuel system over the winter. Upgraded the injectors to some red top rx-7 460cc injectors and a duel feed fuel rail. Previous injector were operating at 105% at full load. So fixed that up made a tweak to the ecu and took it back on track. Will need to dyno it again as it feels like its running a bit rich, but was good enough for some track time.

Looks like you had the track all to yourself. Do you ever plan on putting slicks on the car?

They was all of about 5 cars at the track that day, so yeah pretty much all by myself.

No plans for slicks, really no reason to other than show that its a bit quicker.
