OK guys, How much will my performance suffer if I ditch the intercooler on the SR20turbo motor?

Every time I look at the intercooler and plumbing it just pisses me off. I hate the routing, I hate the space it occupies, I hate how it screws up the lines of the car.

So what happens if I ditch the cooler?

Maybe I'll build a second set of plumbing with cooler delete and do some seat of the pants when it's up and running.

Actually quite a bit. Where you'll suffer the most is hot days &/or repeated runs or longer time on the throttle.

The heat will build detonation will begin & you could lose an engine.

Of course you could just turn the boost way down to build you a little head room or even remove the turbo. :P

It's well worth it to figure out a way to run an intercooler if performance, rather than just bragging rights or having it make cool sounds, is your goal.

I've been asking around on Nissan forums and the general consensus is the cooler is a necessary evil. The knock sensor will keep detuning the engine as heat builds so I don't destroy the engine, but heat soak would be a real problem.

I'm going to spend tom time staring at it after work this week to see if I can do a major re-route
