Lack of progress update.
I still can't get the carbs squared away. I made a minor tweak on the fuel screws and now it won't start. Put it back the way it was and it still won't start. I don't have a freaking clue why it's all screwed up now, but I'm out of time to get stuff done. I have to me out of the garage at the old house tomorrow cause I'm getting sent out of town for work again. Won't be back until after we close on selling.

Totally screwed. Looks like I'll be driving the BMW for starting line school and the first event.

Sounds like the ECM I had in my car for a few years. The better the tune today, the worse it was tomorrow. What it needed was a good throwing away.

After things get settled I'll go back to square one with Fuel.
Drain and clean the tank, replace fuel lines, ad last chance filter, tear down and go through carbs top to bottom.

pray it starts and runs well enough to tune.
On a positive note, a couple of drive belts were laying on my desk this morning.

Long time no progress update.
SO here's a general update on house stuff, work stuff, and life in general.

We sold the old house and closed without incident. Well, almost without incident. On the final walkthrough the wife started bitching and moaning because we took down our curtain rods and shower curtain. My first response was F them, read the contract, they got everything as stated in the contract. My realtor decided to give them a gift card to make the wife happy.

On the new house. We're moved in but nowhere near unpacked. I have the garage wired, insulated, and drywall hung. I even got part of the seams taped and mudded before we had to clear out the garage at the old place and just quickly shove stuff in the new place. That means that sometime in the not too distant future I have to either empty the garage to finish drywall or move stuff front to back and side to side to work on a section at a time. Original plans were to do some of the work this past weekend but Mother in Law and Baby Girl both came for a visit. Great fun, just zero work on the house completed.

On a positive note my electrician came by yesterday and installed the breaker for power to the garage. I FINALLY have 120 amps to play with over 5 dedicated circuits. There are three 20 amp 120V and two 30 amp 240V. I can run a window air conditioner, welder and plasma cutter all at the same time if I want to. Not that it will ever happen, not now I don't have to drag drop cords or plug and unplug tools all the time. :yay:
BTW If you haven't priced big copper wire lately IT's EXPENSIVE

The A Mod is still parked in a friends garage 40 minutes away and I haven't touched it, heck I haven't even seen it in a month. I still haven't been able to figure out what starter bendix is needed, so chances are pretty good that I'll be fitting a different starter and building a bracket to get it aligned properly to reduce wear and tear on the bendix. Still NO CLUE as to what to do to the carbs either. I talked with a local 2 stroke mechanic and he gave me carb settings that I'd already tried and failed with. He thinks I have an intermittent spark issue with the MSD box. he also suggested that I do a leak down test on the motor before I try anything else.
Turns out that a leaky crank seal can throw off all my settings and make it impossible to tune. :BH:

So that has me shopping on Craigslist on a regular basis hoping to find a wrecked superbike or a motor kit for a fair price. In hindsight I never should have sold the other A Mod project and GSXR motor. I should have taken the $6k offer I had on the SR powered 7 and had plenty o cash for building the other car.
Hindsight is 20/20

Solo season is here so I'm beating the snot out of my daily driver 318ti in H Street.

And of course I'm always on the lookout for another 7 project.

The bendix that is on that started came from a Briggs lawn mower starter. Same style that was on it when I got it. When I chewed it the one on the car when I got it. I took it to a coworker who's dad owned a starter rebuild store. He knew what it was and had them on the shelf. When you get it run you will like it. Best car I have driven.

The garage at the new place is the same size as the old one. Only things in there right now are drill press welders, and 4 storage cabinets.
I learned that I can lease a trailer spot in the neighborhood storage lot for $50/year, so that makes fitting a 7 a piece of cake.

Talked to a guy in NC and struck a deal on a 2005 CBR 600RR engine kit. Currently on a wrecked bike and I can hear it run before I take delivery.

Engine, exhaust, air box, cdi, regulator, fuel pump and full wiring harness. No dash or ignition switch, but I already have those.

Screw the 2 stroke, I'm moving on. 2 stroke bits will get parted out on ebay.

It's not Briggs. I've taken the starter to 3 different shops down here and no one recognizes it. Best guess is Tecumseh power equipment. One guy says he can gut it and build based on anything I want. He suggested Kawasaki armature and bendix with a pair of custom bushing to mate up with the endcaps... Doesn't sound like fun to me.

Today a motor kit popped up in my daily search. 2005 cbr 600 rr. A little under powered compared to the 2 stroke but super reliable. Also eliminates the CVT and related tuning.

My local shop had them in stock. Called them the "new style Briggs". Sounds like you are not planning on working on the snowmobile engine anymore. If you change your mind I can get you the bendix and send it to you.

Thanks Chad. I'm going to shelve the 2 stroke. I figure that I can't go wrong with a small bore Honda. It's bone stock with EFI and a complete wiring harness. Should be fabricate a bit and go drive. I'll only need to worry when I loop it. Need to get the clutch in quick on a bike motor before you start going backwards.

I won't be the fastest thing out there, but it should be a great learning tool.

The Ti looks better in a go fast pic than in real life. It's a well used DD with 200k on the clock and peeling clear coat.
But it sure is fun to drive past it's limit. :D

SO yesterday was out Solo #2 this time up at the old Hard Rock /Freestyle music park in Myrtle Beach
High temp of the day was at 7am when it was 38 and raining. When I was finally done and got in my car at 3:15 it was 35, winds blowing 15 sustained and still raining. FROZE MY ASS OFF!!!!

however, I did take the crapbox daily driver 318ti out in the rain and put it through it's paces for 5 runs and took 3rd in H Street
49.515
48.535
47.256
47.091
45.955 +1 :(

I was rockin that last run but got a little squirrely and took out the last cone in the slalom with my left rear tire.
Finished 1 1/2 seconds behind a 2016 Fiesta ST. Not too bad for a bone stock 20 year old beater with 200k miles on it. The +1 cost me the class win. That run clean would have done it.

The car in 2nd in "HS" was a 240SX with intake, full open exhaust, coilovers, roll bar, and gutted interior.

Fun in the rain.

Hitting the road early AM to pick up the CBR 600 motor kit. 3 hours and change each way, hoping to be back at Casa Busy by 2pm with stops for gas and lunch.

The Boy will be home for a couple of days on Spring Break. I plan to pick his brain on the Arduino project while he's home. I still need to order some pieces before his semester ends. The project probably got a whole lot easier with the addition of the bike motor and stock ECU. We should be able to pull already conditioned signals that would normally head to the instrument cluster.
