We had a little blip upward with temperature down here this week, Perry. It should be back down to the high 70's F here by the time you arrive. It's 78F out in the desert right now at 8:30 pm as I write this.

That works for us no problem!

A day in the shop. Spot welded the floor stiffeners in.


Turned the car right side up and finally removed the cross bracing from the car. Nothing moved or sprung back or out.


Then a milestone moment, 362 days from the start of this build I was able to take the obligatory vroom vroom pic. Now iffin you hadn't already noticed, this is a dam small car.

I have to discuss colour with the wifey, but I do know I want a 2 tone colour scheme. Body one color, fenders another color. Beige body, burgundy fenders; cream body, chocolate fenders; long story short right now I have no idea. I do know it will not be what Henry told Edsel when Edsel wanted to paint the Fords different colors to keep up with the car competition. Henry says to Edsel " I don't care what color you paint the cars during assembly as long as they're black when they roll off the assembly line".

A bit of a build update. In anticipation of our 4 month hiatus, I did a full mock up on the Mouse, sans bumpers.. The car will be pushed to the side of the shop in case my kids or my friends need to use the shop this coming winter. A couple of pics.




On another note, I pulled out the seat that I intend to use on the Mouse. My intention is to run it through my seat widener and widen this 24" bucket into a 42" bench seat. I may have to run it through the widener a couple three times but we'll get her done by golly, indeed we will. I'll putter around with this till we leave.

Well it's been a year today since I started this build. WOW! I thought I'd be further into this build than I am.
Took the bucket seat apart. I'm blending the bucket seat with the rear seat pieces of a Toyota donor car to make a bench seat for the Mouse. Using the sliders but I don't ever see the seat moving forward, unless I want to use my knees to press the gas and brake pedals. Some pics of the seat parts that shall become a bench seat for the Mouse



Anyhow winding down and reminiscing, you guys that have had as many haircuts as I've had. Do you have fond memories of the 70's?

The birth of a Frankenstein bench seat for the Mouse. Notice the meter stick across the seat for reference which is 4" longer than a yard stick. The seat's on sliders and the seat back will tilt forward to gain access to the rear shelf (that's where the groceries will go).

Groceries, Perry? Boy, you must be part Italian to see that possibility. They pack those little cars with impossible amounts of stuff. Thank God you don't have goats like JD.

Lonnie I draw the line at carrying livestock in the back seat. But that does remind me of a story. I worked near a town 20 miles from Holden, called Viking. The guys I worked with told me a story of a guy taking his pig to the market way back when. Anyhow he puts his pig in the back seat of his car. As he's driving down the main street in Viking another farmer coming his way stops and flags him down. Now this farmer has eye sight problems. He looks over to this guy and his back seat passenger and says "So, what are you two fellers up to today?"



Worked on bench seat fabrication tonight. Got the seat back welded up, test fit. Still more work on it, but it looks like it might work. Even tilts forward to be able to put some groceries (no live stock) behind the seat. Some pics.

Perry, great work all around. I was thinking.....(uh Oh!) Do you think that you could hinge the front seat mounts and provide a safe latching mechanism (hood latch?) for the rear mounts? That might give you a larger access to the grocery area.

Maybe something similar to a truck tail gate latch system but with heavy pins on each end, with multi-hole plates for more than one back angle.

This model has been painted with so many great patterns and colors, it is a really tough call.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I am going to see how much the seat slides forward once I have the floor mounting fabricated. With seat tilted forward and slid forward and I apply Vaseline to myself, I should be able to slip into the grocery compartment.
Or maybe I can just load the groceries through the roof
