Hi guys! i have been following locost on and off for the lat 7 years. in fact i had bought the book [u]BUILD YOUR OWN SPORTS CAR[u] with the intent to build my own locost. Actually I went as far as to buy a 91 Miata and build a frame. Then scrapped the idea and then came back to it and built another frame and scrapped that also. I could never really fall in love with idea of my very own locost... not really sure why cause it is such a classic car and tons of fun to drive. One day I was monkeying around with Solidworks and came to realize that i should just design my own car. I talked to the wife, she was on board and so here we are.

For a profession I am a mechanical designer with a background in automotive, cfd, prototyping and engineering research. I am also a big fan of endurance racing such as the WEC and IMSA series. My design take alot of cues from the LOLA B12/80 as well as the Mclaren P1 and other stuff I see. I have also tried to keep with the Locost mindset, being, that its easy to build yourself cheap and light.

I have also run this design in CFD and and (with out a wing) it produces 400lbs of downforce at 100 mph.

Anyway I wanted to see what you guys thought.

Lastly would any one be interested in building there own? I am thinking of releasing the plans for free so anyone could build it as they wished.

Thanks guys!

Thrice means 3. One more to go.

I think it is one method they use on this site to block spam from new members joining only to advertise something.

Your source likely doesn't allow hot linking/access in it's properties.

Use something like Imgur or upload them to the forum using button at bottom of post

Or better yet, just load them to the site directly then you'll never have issues and they'll never disappear.

How do u load them to the site? Also, I was using google photo.

If I use the buttons at the bottom, that would mean the “upload attachment” buttons?

So just a couple pics to show the scale of the car. Also the seating position is pretty laid back. Currently the suspension is designed around a bespoke upright. In the near future i will be designing a suspension around the Miata units. Also the uprights need to be defined a bit more so I can actually mount calipers to them.

As for actually constructing this car; hopefully i will be able to start building up the rear pod before the end of the year. I am also building the steering wheel. I have the paddle shifters, quick release and main body made. Just waiting on my cnc to that I can cut out the face plate.

What I plan to do is install a turbo charged sportbike engine into this with a chain drive diff. Doing it that way keeps the weight down and allows the use of paddle shifters and i can mount the spedo pretty easily. Of course I have designed the chassis so you can fit a larger engine in the engine bay and you can even install a Mendeola transaxle within the rear pod.

Anyway guys, as I keep designing and building I will keep posting pics. If you have any questions or ideas to make the design better, please feel free to share.

Thank you guys for all your help with the post so far.

That's going to be an enormous amount of composite work. Hope you have the experience, space, and time to make it a success.
