Morgan Replica frame build, Part 2
Morgan Replica frame build, Part 2 of my build. This will be a multi part build series. I hope to show all parts from the initial build table to registration. I have been looking forward to this build, and hope you enjoy it, and maybe find it useful.

Too bad I don't get home for another 3 weeks, I could measure the front end pivot points from my first build with Chevette spindles. See the pics 1/2 way down the page.

Oh thank you, I will be reading threw that build tonight, to also see what ball joints you used and such. I can wait on measurements, I'm not building A arms right now, just planning ahead.

Front suspension drawing revision . Received my Fiero/chevette spindles. I'm planning on using a Front Left Inner Tie Rod ends, from a 1968-1978 Volkswagen Beetle for the upper ball joint, And Chevette lower ball joints. This is my first time doing this, Using VSusp to check this.

What is the od of the control arm pivots? Looks like your dims are to the outside edge. I'm guessing 1/5-2 inch od?

To level the lca at ride height (5 inch gc?) you may find the lcaps are too low for the tire od (subtract ½ inch from the tire bottom for the bulge at the right pressure for the weight). What is the tire size?

Raising the lcaps would allow for longer lca and may improve the geometry but it is too soon to tell with not enough info. If you start with an lca that is not long enough, the uca can end up too short to clear the coilover in full droop so maximize the lca length if you intend to just build around that. May do better to use the stock ubj also since the shank of a rod end can get in the way with a short uca.

I'd use the stock press-in lbj too. Easy to make the seat. Racers usually add a little stitch weld to the edge of the lbj if the press fit is too easy or just for insurance.

Let me know if you get hung up on anything in vsusp or just want feedback.

Since this is a trike, making one end handle well with really good camber gain is not a big deal when the rear cannot have any gain in roll. May be better to limit the handling of the front for balance and 3 wheel drifting. I would not put too much effort into it at the expense of aesthetics or making more work for yourself once you start painting toward a corner.

I’d concentrate on a level lca (lbj and lcap same height) at ride height (tire sitting ½ inch low), mark ucaps location on frame with spindle at 90 deg to the ground, then move the ucaps aft one inch for caster, 200 lb or less springs for lots of travel bump and droop without coming off spring seat, near vertical coilover for better damping and lower spring rate requirement, no bumpsteer through most of the normal travel from one inch droop to full compression.

EDIT to correct grammar.

I may take you up on using the vsusp program, just stated using it last night. But it seems to be an excellent program. I do have concerns on the coilovers, I will probably just tack up the first set of A arms, to try everything out. I am deffinately learning a lot as I go, But enjoying it...:D
