TR-82 Exo

Here is where the build logs go for non-traditional build logs. Mid-engine, three wheelers, you name it. If it's not your typical Locost it goes here.

Finally, a beautiful day here in upstate NY. The beast is running well, after sitting for 5 months in storage, so I took it over to tour one of NYC's watershed reservoirs and fountain. Loads of fun....

Hi folks,
During my latest travels with the car, I noticed that cooling system could be in need of some enhancement. After reviewing the requirements for a Small Block Chevy 350, I found that the car cooling system was probably slightly under sized for the vehicle. An SBC needs ~1sq in of radiator surface area/HP. Since my vehicle is ~300-400HP I would need 300-400 sq in of radiator surface area. With the existing two radiator setup (plumbed in series), the TR-82 had 320 sq in of radiator surface area. Similarly, the fan airflow for an SBC should be > 3000 CFM. The TR- 82 had ~2650 CFM.

In order to improve both the radiator surface and airflow I would need to add a new radiator and fans. But how.... After some extended searching and pondering, I decided on a solution. I added a 3rd radiator (built for a Porsche Cayman ('06-'12) - front center radiator) plumbed in parallel with the existing Porsche Cayman (2014) - front center radiator, and added 4 SPAL fans. Theoretically, the TR-82 now has 432 sq in of radiator surface area and 4018 CFM of fan airflow. Here are some pics of the addition and new plumbing schematics for those of you who are interested.

The car now runs at a constant 195°, and I no longer have to worry about sitting in traffic. I am happy with how it turned out!
