I don't know if this will help or not. ..
apparently some aftermarket harley speedo sets require the use of an adapter to go from a 5/8" 18tpi nut on the end of the cable jacket to an unlisted metric size.
The adapter I saw was only a bushing, it didn't extend the inner cable but since it exists and some snowmobiles use an angle drive (Polaris for one) I'm thinking you may be able to work out something with motorcycle or snowmobile pieces.

Redbull, I could have been more specific.
Since Mazda has used sooo many rear gear and tires combinations, they also have a large number of speedo drive gears to mix and match as needed. I do believe I will be able to find one the will work with my Mazda combination of parts.

Here is some info about Mazda Speedo Gears from solomiata

SPEEDOMETER GEARS:
The speedometer gears and gear housings between all the late model(1984+) 'M' transmissions interchange. If you have installed different rear ratio gears or different diameter tires then you will need to change the speedometer gears in the transmission to keep the speedometer accurate. The speedometer gear housing bolts to the transmission and is easily removed since it is external to the tranmission

Mazda makes speedometer gears for the late model 'M' tranmission with 17-23 teeth. The steeper the rear ratio gears or the shorter the tire diameter the more number of teeth is needed to compensate. The 90-91 Miata comes from the factory with a 20 tooth speedometer gear (which makes the 4.30:1 gear about 5mph fast). The pitch of all the speedometer gears is the same and only the diameter of the gear is different (1978-mid83, with the exception of the 626, use a coarse drive gear and are not interchangable). The different gears housings are offset to account for the diameter change (see picture)

Speedo gear chart
Car tooth count gear color notes

84-85 12A RX-7 ( '79-83 coarse gears ) 17 green

84+ B2000/2200 truck, 84-85 13B GSL-SE RX-7 18 purple

86-91 RX-7 convt (small diameter) 19 red

90-91 Miata, 86-91 RX-7 20 black

1989-90 RX-7 GTUS ( 4.30:1 rear ratio) 21 white

1979-82 RWD 626 22 Red

92+ Miata 23 Red

FYI, If you cannot find a 626 or late model Miata unit then you can make one by using the abundant 1979-83 RX-7 17 tooth coarse gear drive, which is the same diameter as the 22 and 23 tooth fine tooth drives. This makes the housings interchangable and then only the drive gear itself (22 tooth = part number 8854-17-441A) needs to be purchased.

Redbull, The Mazda speedometer drive thread is metric M22-1.5 not SAE 7/8-15. They are very close. one might be able to forcefit but I doubt you'd get more than 1 thread before it bound up.

I found a non-gear driven angle adapter that works with the RX7 and should work with a Miata trans. Toyota P/N 83770-22100.

However, I believe that the Miata and RX7 transmissions may not use interchangable gears as suggested in the Solomiata site listed above.

The cable on a T5 runs right into the side of the tunnel as well. I still think the best arrangement is to run the cable across the floor and along the outside frame rail, up into the dash. The cable is stiff and hard to crush; as long as it is securely fixed to the floor I'd have no worries about stepping on it during entry/exit.

Maybe not the cleanest solution visually, but "cheap is a quality overcoming many faults."
