. . . .Good enough for me.

So how would YOU get 260hp? Which engine? Turbo?

Seeing as how you have a Neon already, I'm pretty sure which one you're going to choose...

Are you kidding? Ain't goin' wit' any o' dose.

And I really don't want to even think of what it would take to twist a front drive engine around and get a transmission with a driveshaft to run to the back.

260hp Neon? How is this accomplished?

I can only guess he was refereing to a ....

Middy Tim Middy Stage 2 SRT-4 engine (265 bhp @ 5200 and 280 lb-ft @ 3600)
That would put you in the ball park....

Special Emphasis on Middy Tim

There are two options (off the shelf) to turning a neon to RWD, the Liberty and the Dakota tranny....I think this was dicussed in a little detail in ...

You need to double check before you make the neon a donor though.

It is late here so excuse any errors on my part....

You could put a supercharged 3.8 from the Gran Prix GTP and Buicks.

I think an SRT-4 powered car would easily meet those power goals, but you would need an engine with a complete harness and ECU.

There are lots of options, but to make that kind of power from a 4 banger you will probably need forced induction.

Use a Ford Pinto 2.3L with a turbo.

Also, the SRT-4 engine could be run with a Megasquirt computer. That was my plan before I decided to go with an LS engine.

The Pinto engines are known to have pretty strong bottom ends, but they are iron (the SRT 4 is as well) so there is some weight to consider. A friend of mine has one with a turbo and Megasquirt in a dune buggy. The complete buggy is light and fast. He is currently power limited because he has cheap cast pistons. With some nice forged, low compression pistons, 260HP from the Pinto engine would be no problem.

SR20DET
Duratec (blown or high strung N/A)
Ecotec (blown or high strung N/A)

Ecotec with an Eaton (or better yet, an aftermarket roots blower) on it would give you great bottom end boost and TQ.

260hp from the crank or to the wheels?

I read that someone put a s2000 f20c motor in a drift car and with engine management, they were able to get 250rwhp. My stock s2000 motor put down 204rwhp stock on the dyno (rated for 240hp crank). It won't have the tq though of a forced induction/larger displacement setup.

The same way Caterham does it...2.3 Duratec N/A with parts from Cosworth...not exactly cheap that way, but I am sure there is plenty of info out there on how to build a strong Duratec.

Cosworth's price for the 2.3L Cosworth Duratec HP250 (Full engine assembly) (YD8080) only $12999.00. I wonder if they include any stickers?

Seriously...could do an LS1 with a t56, a laptop and tuning software for that price!

(Not to mention Flowers, Chocolates, and an expensive dinner to pacify the Missus for spending 13K)
