The dates for the Midwest Gathering in NE OK, SE KS, SW MO and NW AR are tentatively set for June 6, 7, 8 and 9.
The routes can be in some of these areas but mainly in NE OK.

WOW! That works for me. Both location and Date... as long as 12-20-12 doesn't get in the way.

Sad to say, the Locost build is totally stalled. Nearly all of our discretionary funds are basically being diverted into a project of converting our garage into a "Grannie flat". On top of that, now the G/F project is getting bogged down because we have a chance at buying our neighbor's land to add to our little 5 acre hobby farm. We're trying to be able to live a more sustainable lifestyle in case the world continues it's present spiral. I haven't given up on my Locost dreams though, just had re-prioritize some things. I still have my Miata donor car, some steel tube and an S-2 nose cone that I bought from Dr. Hess. The dream lives on! In the meantime I will live vicariously through the forum and the Mid-West Gatherings. Looking forward to it.

BTW, I don't think the project stall is entirely a bad thing. After seeing what Jack and the other guys are doing with the Lalo body, I'm starting to rethink the direction that I want to go with mine. While I fell in love with the Lotus 7 many years ago, I just wanted a small, lightweight, zippy sports car. It doesn't have to look like a Lotus, a Lola would be fine with me. The idea of a diesel intrigues me also, so there goes the Miata engine (possibly). Besides, I really let Jack down a while ago. I offered him some surplus parts from my donor and then was unable to follow through. I'm hoping he'll forgive me if I buy some hardware and a Lalo body from him.

Jack, Please consider this a public apology!

I will keep an eye on this thread. I will try my best to make it although it will be a very long drive for an old fart.

Looks do-able to me. At the moment I don't see any reason I can't go. I am in. Do we have a town location so I can get a better idea of mileage from the middle of Illinois?

"Whizzy" on this forum and the USA7's forum is running it. As far as I know nothing but the dates are known so far. Russ

Graham,

Figure your mileage to Joplin, mo. That should at least put you in the center of the proposed area.

It doesn't sound too much farther than the other Gatherings for me. I plan on being there.

I'm in Houston now and from Tulsa, a while back, so that might be fun. I'll keep and eye on the thread and see if I could get the seven up there. That's a really long drive in a seven.

My next Locost is going to be Miata based--and I got myself Yet Another Miata donor recently so I'm well stocked for test-fitting parts. The diesel is intriguing indeed, but my particular diesel engine was chosen to reach a line drawn in the sand, and 100 mpg was an arbitrary target. Mind you, it's a lot of fun, but in more of an ecomodder.com way than a locostusa.com way, and I think if/when I choose to make another diesel Locost it'll most likely have a VW Rabbit diesel in it.

Now with a Miata engine and Lalo body, one could hope for S2000 acceleration, Lotus handling, and Metro fuel economy, which would be a nice combo.

But I digress. Please pencil me in for the Gathering. I hope to have my Miata motored car done by then, but I'll be driving the Kubota motored contraption for the midwest trip, since it's what I can afford to put fuel into. Heck, Oregon is even farther away than Huston.
